Weighed on a certified truck scale... rounds up to the nearest 20 lbs.
Both cars are 53/47 weight bias.
BMW factory weights are correct.
M3 has no trunk tar ~ 55 lbs on i cars
M3 gas tank is 2 gals smaller ~12 lbs
Apples to apples the i is ~90 lbs lighter (about 10 hp)
Don't think you can feel 90 lbs. Take your passenger seat out (~50 lbs)
and go drive your car.
For all you w/ E30 M3 fantasies, get over the fender flares. I've owned both. My 89 iS had M3 springs, Tociko Illuminas, 21 front and 14.5 rear and the all important e30 M3 steering rack. Close your eyes and you can't tell a difference in feel. Below 5500 the i car is way better. Sure the M3 pulls harder up top, but I never grew fond of the cement mixer noise.
The lightest US spec 6 cyl e30 is the 84 @ 2654 lbs RFR
The 85 is 2710 for some reason.
86 is 2723 w/ std ABS
