    How do you shave?

Ok so I'm sure everyone has herd of shaving a motor bay but my question is HOW DO YOU DO IT? I've never looked into it before, where does it all go? It remains a misery to me and I'd like some answers.

    key word: misery.

lots of wire splicing, grinding off brackets, relocating fuseboxes, deleting reservoirs/brake boosters, welding grinding welding grinding welding grinding, body filler sanding filler sanding...

    in a word, misery.

Not going to lie, he's 100% right, it's a BITCH. Even mine, which wasn't even a full shave, was a gigantic pain in the ass.

Started by removing any brackets I didn't want, and grinding the areas flat:

Tacked new sections of sheet metal in where there were holes:

This became a MAJOR bitch lower in the bay, where the metal is VERY thin, we burned through more than we welded.

      So then, Bondo:

      Then black filler primer:

      Then paint:

      And then, this happened:

So I stripped it all back down to bare metal and body filler, and went with bedliner instead:

If you don't know what you're doing, don''t even ATTEMPT this by yourself. I partially knew what I was doing, and made a lot of mistakes that cost a lot of time, but it was worth it to learn how to do it right.

Inside fenders, custom panels, straight up deleting stuff... it's more of a fabrication game than anything. Compare some fully shaved cars (or mini trucks) and you might notice oddly thick wheel wells and such, with a bit of creativity and skill you can design the metal work inside the engine bay to look stock but actually house reservoirs.

It's pretty fucking pointless if you drive the car a lot.

Well that's not what I wanted to hear at all. But it's worth it in my opinion. My cousin sent me this picture today that kinda peeked my interest so I may as well give it a shot. (maybe not to this extent but just a mild shave)

Explain that one to me. The only thing I deleted that could possibly be used on a daily basis, and that's in the winter, is the washer fluid tank.

I'm a big fan of wire tucks, and generally getting rid of unused bracketry and other un-necessary clutter in the bay. What I'm not a fan of AT ALL is that VW in this thread. That just looks retarded to me...Yikes. A stock engine bay looks much better IMO...plus THAT would have to be a serious pain in the ass to work on.

In other words...I'd rather look at the fusebox in the engine bay every time I pop the hood than crawl up underneath the dash to replace one...

What bed liner did you use?

I am in the process of repainting my engine bay and was going to do alpine white again (factory), but that bedliner is probably cheaper and more durable and easier to apply.

Here is where I am at now.

I am a fan of function over form. So I would rather have an engine bay that has easy access to everything and is easy to disassemble if need be.

                            Because Racecar.

How do I shave? Well I start by lifting the balls and using short strokes from center to outside. Then I move up...

wait this is about something different. Dang.
