tell him to test drive both, and tell him to get whichever one he likes more, and feels more comfortable in. i dont think anyones mad, they are just saying we can't force him to love E30's either he likes it or he doesn't, and he has to make that choice for himself. you can't convince an enthusiest to be an enthusiest.

Um, did you say what he wants the car for? Is it just to get from A to B or is he the sort of person he will give it a decent run once a while? Does he like straight line speed or corners? If its just to get around the honda would probably be the better bet. However if he will give it a bit of stick then get him to drive both and see which he prefers?

Real E30 enthusiast = Knows that in the 80´s BMW´s where made for snobbs, every single model, 318i M10´s where only to get people into BMW´s for later snobbyness, E30´s handle very badly with stock suspension compared to NEW cars , it´s not until you have swapped shocks and springs the E30 begins to "shine" . Also the real E30 enthusiast has the E30 for the long term and not short term and doesn´t tune the E30 for the WIN in every aspect,..
I paid $3600 for my 318is; I could have afforded something a little more expensive. However, even if I had 10 grand to spend on a car, I would have bought the exact same one. I'm keeping this car as long as I can; I will at least make it a track rat someday.sigpic

I bought my 318is because it is basically the most fun to drive car I could find for the money, and it is a very complete car in terms of sportiness, not because it is a BMW.
Most E30 owners realize that this is a euro beater that's fun to drive. I usually don't have a problem with them. Once you start moving up in the BMW line to newer models, people's mindset changes. People buy them more for the badge. Say what you will about car companies, but most people consider driving a chore. BMWs are no different.
Oh well, I like my friends '88 Accord. It's a very fun, very run-of-the-mill little car.The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Run-of-the-mill Hondas are boring, numb cars that are designed for people who believe driving to be a chore. It bothers me that people try to turn them into something they are not. Besides, a large number of people who mod Hondas just want a "hot car mang." Many of them are not enthusiasts, they just think of the car as a status symbol.
Anyway, I'm not saying that the car you drive determines whether or not you are a true enthusiast; I'm saying that certain cars are designed more for enthusiasts than others are, and some cars do not have the "complete package."
Stock E30's are soft, numb, and a bit quicker (but also heavier) than a Civic. Throw a lot of mods at each and a Civic will still hold it's own. My friend has a 93' Civic SI hatch that has an ITR swap with bolt ons, gutted, full cage, Tein coil overs, and it will absolutely rape my car straight line, autocross, road course, whatever. It will even throttle steer, and he did a legit drift in it when he took me for a ride. The kicker is: he spent less on it than I have on my car, and his is much more reliable and cheaper to fix.

With low powered FWD cars, the merits of RWD cannot be realized, and FWD isn't so bad. Also, the E30 M3 was, is, and always will be a true enthusiast's car, though not EVERYBODY who drives one is an enthusiast. At least today, most people who still have them are indeed enthusiasts.

Most of you who are saying that Hondas suck probably have never driven or ridden in an equally modded Honda. I think stock for stock an E30 vs. a Civic, the E30 wins but not by much.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.
