It's been said a million times, let him get whatever he wants, he'll find out what he likes and whatnot. The majority of Hondas I do dislike, however I do like that some tuners are going for the clean sleeper look now with a turbo four banger that can put out 400 rwhp without even trying.
damn i dint expect to so so few people promoting the e30 on "an e30 community" forum but but as earlier stated let him do as he pleases. if you dont like it and he does then let him be if he chooses to RICE his car out leave him be........but you dont gotta park next to him = D
You guys got to give a little more credit to the cars we drive. Our enthusiasm isn't eintirely irrational.
This guy's friend may not know what he wants at all. I think the e30s have stood the test of time pretty well. Stock e30s are comfortable and they aren't that loud. I drove a jeep before I drove my e30, and even with exhaust and a chip my 325is is quieter. New hondas are unusually quiet though.
An e30 is better than a honda if you enjoy driving. The japanese cars made post 95, are smooth and quiet and are good for the driver who hates driving and just wants to space out and get to where they are going. In a lot of cases I'd rather be the passenger in a newer japanese car, but I'd always prefer to be the driver in an e30.
It's all about the leather seats and that little mpg gauge below the tach.
Chicks dig the e30s more than a lot of bland Hondas, I've been told that many times.
Noob E30 Enthusiast = Thinks E30´s are best and that they were designed to be sport orientated when new and with cheap mods that they will be the baddest thing around the block 4ever, also thinks fwd sucks, also thinks 4wd cars MUST understeer no matter what, drives an E30 because it´s cheap and they REALLY can´t afford anything better at the moment, said enthusiast will buy space wagons as soon as they are married and have kids.
Real E30 enthusiast = Knows that in the 80´s BMW´s where made for snobbs, every single model, 318i M10´s where only to get people into BMW´s for later snobbyness, E30´s handle very badly with stock suspension compared to NEW cars , it´s not until you have swapped shocks and springs the E30 begins to "shine" . Also the real E30 enthusiast has the E30 for the long term and not short term and doesn´t tune the E30 for the WIN in every aspect,..
Sit them down with a bottle of light beer, a bottle of good quality full-strength German beer and a bottle of Absinthe/Mezcal/Jagermeister.
Now, give them the light beer, then the German beer and lay this out, "The light beer is the Honda and the German beer is a manual 325i E30. They both do similar things (get you drunk/drive you somewhere), but one of them gets you there faster and will often leave you with a far more exciting experience than the other."
Then, give them the shot of Absinthe and tell them, "That's a turbo M20-powered E30. It'll fuck you up and leave you broke, but there's not much else that'll give such a rush"

So its not designed that way, but that doesn't mean it can't be used that way. How come so many fwd's kick ass at autocross, because they aren't designed to be sports oriented? I have one because they are a fun to drive car, and cheap *shrug* If I'd really thought about it, I'd have something else.
well thats your definition, not mine. By that definition, its the tool that makes the craftsmen, not the other way around, which is bogus. I've seen some super fast 80s buicks at the drag strip by the way. Not my style by any stretch, but I can respect the work they put into it...
Here's a couple of scenarios:
-A middle class 16 year old gets a 94 civic coupe for his first cars. He likes to get his hands dirty, doesn't have a shit load of money, so he works on the civic. Some of his mods are good, others aren't, but its his car and he loves tinkering with it.
-A Bank of America executive reads about the new Elise in Road and Track, thinks its cool looking, buys one, and drives it to the office once or twice a week.
Which is the enthusiast?
I've been making these arguments for years though, its not the first time I've had to defend against ignorance or blind arrogance disguised as snobbery. Most of the time people simply don't know any better, and repeat typical forum bullshit. Other times people have a chip on their shoulder because they got rolled by a ricebox. Other people are just plain racist. Whatever it is, hating gets no one anywhere. Oh well.
thank you, finalysomone on here with a correct definition. its not the car that makes the enthusiast its the driver/owner.
I went from an 84 318i with 320k to a 96 Accord EX 5 spd loaded, VTEC, etc. There is a good reason why I only had the car 10 months before buying another BMW (1998 323iC) Honda makes just as reliable a product as our BMW's, I have a Honda bike and a Honda jetski, but for cars, they are really not that much fun to drive. Same with Toyota's. I would go for the BMW, but that is my opinion.
P.S- I love my 325iS on the highway-real direct, and plenty of power. I like my Mercedes a little more for a longer trip, but the e30 is a blast on the highway, and was quieter than my Honda.

Very well said, Rob. Very well said.
It doesn't matter what the car is. It's what you with it that makes YOU happy, and you don't concern yourself with what's going to make other people happy. My brother Andrew and I have 2 very different cars, he with a 1970 MGB GT, and I with my E30. We have very similar tastes in what we like as far as mods and styling go, but we also differ on many things. But it doesn't matter, because we respect each other's opinions, and know that we each do with our cars what we please. We give each other ideas and suggestions, as well as criticisms. And at the end of the day, we're more dedicated enthusiasts because of it.
wow, sorry i didn't mean to get anyone mad or
offend by starting this thread or anything. It's just that my friend is planning on getting a 89 integra or a 89 e30. We found both for around $2000 and with just about the same miles. He likes both cars, just needed a second opinion. So, I said "grab the e30" and just wanted to see what everyone would say.
