were you shifting the tranny? putting it in D and hoping for the best is certainly not the fastest way to drive an auto..

fwd is fwd....who had the picture that said at a young age we learn fwd sucks?
and also, anyone can drive in a straight line, any car can go fast in a straight line. but it takes atleast a good driver to take a car around corners fast.
i have a stock is and i raced my friend in a sir (americans know them as si) and he had headers, exhaust, intake, somewhat of a suspension kit, and a chip...i beat him by about 2 cars in less then 1/4 mile.
oh and don't race with a automatic car. it's just not worth it. you lose too much power in the tranny.

you guys are totally off base...

I wasn't really looking for a race, and I doubt the civic guy was really looking for one either. I was just cruising around and screwing around. It doesn't matter if i "shifted" my auto or left it in D - he would have owned me either way. It doesn't really matter because it'll get swapped for a 5spd in a couple weeks.

The driver of the civic was a large black security guard probably 40 years of age (not the kind of person you'd even expect to try to race you)... for whatever that's worth.

My friend had a '99 accord LX and I could own that thing up and down the street... so I can only assume this civic was modded somewhat.

But that doesn't change the fact that street racing an auto E30 vs. a Civic is gay.
Does it sound stock by choice? 'Cause a type-r motor is vicious-sounding.

the only thing that that proves is that auto trannys suck ass, but everyone knows that.

whats realy sad is that the only car I have driven that even comes close to the M coupe that I drive from time to time..........is a F&*^ing dodge neon.
I test drove a new SRT-4 a little while back that thing is way to fast for being a complete POS and FWD to boot. i mean 240hp at the wheels!! in a DODGE!!

I did my part to keep my BMWship, I put as much wear on that POS as humanly posable in 20 min. My brother still says that I got "way too close" to a couple curbs. but I don't see how that is posable, I mean you hit it or you don't right?
you gotta love smokey burnouts through the first 3 gears on a car with 14 miles on the odo.:pimp:
or burning a Stang with a Neon with SPORTY writen on the windsheald,

BUT I was still temted to run it into every tree I saw on general principle.
a shitty car thats fast is still a shitty car. period.

Even if I had a 5spd, he still would have beaten me. He pulled pretty consistently on me and was only getting faster.

My good friend has a modded srt-4 (all he'll tell me is ecu + injectors, unsure of how much boost he runs) and his car is far from anything to talk about :P

I'm not saying he wouldn't have burned you if you had had a manual, but who knows.

I was with a friend of mine in his 99 A4 2.8 with an auto, and he blasted by this guy in a stock looking early 90's accord going like 50 because the light changed and the guy hadn't started going yet. the dude caught up when he shifted into 2nd and took off when he went into 3rd. I met the guy later and he sayed all he had was an intake and a centerforce clutch, but I rode around with the guy and he was just real good at driving his car.

I have driven a couple Hondas and there not that bad, I just hate FWD.

Have you driven it? I have driven quite a few cars and the only thing I have driven that pulls to 120 as fast is a M coupe. and I still wouldnt race one for slips in that.

it sucks but its true. Like i sayed earlyer realy shitty car in every aspect exept going in a straight line.

a d16z6 in a 00 integra gsr? i think not.. maybe a crx older civic but not a 00 gsr afaik they all were dohc and vtec on the gsr.

thats damn embarassing losing to a dx even if it WAS a hatch and extremely light. by about 10 cls i walked an si hatch that was racing a 2door with the same engine, intake and full exhaust and open up a lead of about 7 or eight cls. even with an auto if it was a 325i u shouldnt have lost unless he was workin with sumn serious.
