Regarding all the talk about the newer BMWs one could buy for what e30s are going for...

At this point you buy an e30 b/c you want an e30. If you would rather buy another car with your money, then do that instead. I hate it when people compare them to e36s or e46s. Apples and oranges. I don't see an e30 as a less valuable model then an e36 M3 or and e46 M3. I love the e46 M3 and when I am good and ready i'll buy one, but its pointless to compare it to the e30 in my eyes.

Exactly! When looking for a car, I found tons of cheap e36s, but I sucked it up and dished out the extra cash because I wanted the e30. the e30 is an amazing platform with a rich racing history and a truly vintage feel. This is worth something. And prices are just going to keep going up as the e30 becomes more historic. You have to expect it. If you simply want a cheap car, you can't be picky.

wow. this thread is hilarious. i paid $2K for my e30 in pretty beat shape back in 2003. i thought that was pretty expensive back then for a starting point. HOWEVER, once i broke the $10K mark on modifications, i realized that e30s were rediculously underpriced. It was like giving buyers false expectations on what they were going to be spending on mods. You would think a $2k car would have some cheap ass mods to have fun with, but thats not and really hasnt ever been the case if you want nice parts. Now with the market being more around the $4-5K range, spending $10k on mods doesnt seem as horrible.

Im guessing most of you guys crying about high prices for e30's are youngins with no real mod budget. once you start getting close to $40k on your e30, come talk to me.

I hear you on expensive mods. When I bought my e30, I didn't anticipate spending this much on it, but I had to bite the bullet. I love e30's and will do what it takes to keep my project going. I am a college student, however I work a lot, in part to fund my e30 hobby. I don't mind spending the extra money if the quality is there. If I wanted to save $$, I would drive an e36, or a 240, etc...

e30s are some of my favorite vehicles of all time. I own one because of this, not because it's the cheapest option.. It really just depends how dedicated you are..

it's easy to spend that much if you've had it for a long time. and then you realize you've put 100,000 miles on all those mods and it's time to replace them again.

I stopped counting when I added up all my receipts in 2007. I've spent a few thousand working on something new and it's not even close to being done yet.

I saw an E30 pop up on CL last night for $900 obo, '86 325e 4 door manual delphin, 150k orig miles, one owner since 1990, great shape. I swear I was the first person to email the seller (no phone #), it was like 10 minutes after he listed it. No response, nothing. Today, gone.

I hate that shit. That's what comes of overpriced E30s, the underpriced ones magically disappear faster than instantly.
