I liked being part of a culture that included true seasoned enthusiasts as well as moronic 16 year old kids with three springs cut out of their suspension for us to laugh at. Once these start becoming $6k+ cars there will be less people using fish tanks as heater cores. Gone will be threads on going in to thrift stores and looking for money in donated clothes. It won't be nearly as funny when someone pulls an R3V because instead of wrecking your $1500 E30 you just ruined a ride you just paid $7.5k for.

I guess I just feel like by virtue of these cars going up in price, we're all either going to have to grow-up and/or be surrounded by grown-ups. I am a reasonably successful 27 year old professional, but my E30 was my escape to feel like a poor college student again. It was my time machine. Now, instead of being the moron on a good salary in my office who confuses everyone by driving a $2000 twenty-one year old car, I'll just be the moron who paid M3 money for it.
Motion to make R3v into R5v and devote it to E28s.

Yeah, see that's the problem. With my sexual orientation wavering on the edge of solidly defined and concerningly questionable, it would just tip the scales too much to drive a Miata. As it is, I find my gaze lingering as I pass Abercrombie and Fitch or American Eagle at the mall, with those well-chiseled men provocatively tugging their swim shorts down with one thumb, with eyes that seem to gaze right back at me, as if to say, "come and buy the products I am advertising, you naughty miata-driving boy"...

So, what kind of decent pricing are we talking here?

Now I'm more inclinded to go towards Miata's, E36's, E28's, or 944's as opposed to E30's. You're going to get screwed over by insurance if you get in a wreck because they'll never give what it would take to replace your car."

For one, I would never consider owning a miata.
fixed. it was the OP. I got mixed up with all my quote tags.

Miata is more fun than an e30.

          DEAL WITH IT.

          Its also cheaper.

No one wants 14k for an NA miata with hellafresh rimz.

You can get a 1.6 for 1k all day long.

Just dropped $4500 for a 325is in need of minor work. Mind you, this is Canada, so there's a premium on anything that isn't rusted to shit, but in retrospect, and seeing the work the car needs, I wish I had shopped around a little more.

SkiFree nailed it, these prices are getting to be a reality. On the bright side, those of us who plan to hold onto E30s for a while will get to watch their value go up... even though I really doubt any of us is buying E30s as an investment.

Everything about this post is on the money.

I want to always drive an E30. I'll probably get something slightly more reasonable, but it just feels familiar, and is/was a cheap old German car.

                  Mines 3k, very fair no?

IMO I don't think a plastic bumper e30 needing all new suspension bushings and ignition items with rust is worth 4-6k just because the valve cover is painted. That seems to be the trend here though. A 4-6k e30 should not need anything done to it. I'm not talking swap cars though.

Its simple, demand goes up and so do prices. It sucks because its like your favorite band, or rapper, who you and a few only know about and then they blow up and are now being played in your popular radio station. It kinda loses its cache when everyone knows about it. Thats what i feel is happening with e30s. Lets face it, most new cars today are complicated and fugly!

wow. this thread is hilarious. i paid $2K for my e30 in pretty beat shape back in 2003. i thought that was pretty expensive back then for a starting point. HOWEVER, once i broke the $10K mark on modifications, i realized that e30s were rediculously underpriced. It was like giving buyers false expectations on what they were going to be spending on mods. You would think a $2k car would have some cheap ass mods to have fun with, but thats not and really hasnt ever been the case if you want nice parts. Now with the market being more around the $4-5K range, spending $10k on mods doesnt seem as horrible.

Im guessing most of you guys crying about high prices for e30's are youngins with no real mod budget. once you start getting close to $40k on your e30, come talk to me.
