Okay so here is the situation, I have a mint alpine 1991 318is I currently have bought Koni yellow single adjustable, ground control adjustable springs, fog deletes, oem mud flaps all four, smiley, 16x8 styles 5's power flex bushing kit,zhp shift knob, Fog deletes, euro plate filler not to sound cocky but its a decent looking car that turns heads, but I just don't feel like the power is enough. I have about 5k left over on the project now I'm stuck on what to do. M30? S50? M20 Stroker? M42 Turbo? Fucck! Too many options. I want a solid car I could rape but also a reliable dd.

OBDII S52 seems obvious to me. Should be doable for $5k if you don't go overboard on mods. just do a clean, reliable stock swap.

Yeah right when I typed the last sentence M42 turbo was out of the question, but I love the rawness of a M20 stroker

M20 stroker is fun but it's expensive to build and harder to live with day to day than an OBDII S52 would be. To be worth doing you have to do serious work on the head and have it tuned properly (not using the stock computer). that could be a $7,000+ build after tuning, and you *might* make as much power as a bone stock S52.

for sure I'm not saying "don't do an M20 because 24v!!" because that's a pretty stupid mentality, nobody spends $10k on an E30 because it makes sense to do so. My point is not that an M20 has no potential, but a $5000 swap is going to perform better than $5000 spent on a half baked M20.

              It's only worth $3k.

I've driven M20 strokers and they felt slow compared to a DOHC swap.

make sense because he said he dynoed the car with 194whp

well, it's up to you, but it's really apples/oranges.

I'd bet it's not even 200whp (but ask for dyno sheets, you never know) and also I've lived with a stroked M20 running megasquirt on the street for 6 years. it gets tiring.
