    OK, update:

Since this is a personal shipment of a pallet, we'd have to use FedEx Air ( I just found that out). Jon got a quote of over $3000 for the shipment of the pallet.
The $566 that I got earlier was ocean freight, but we'd only be able to use that if it were a commercial shipment. Does anybody think that they'd be able to ship it through a business?

I'm going to call a couple of shipping companies in Portland and get some quotes for Ocean freight.

It'd be nice to get some help on this.
All of the info needed to get a quote for shipment is available in this thread.

I don't really know anything about shipping companies. who was the company who gave you the original quote but was unhelpful?

as far as the commercial shipment, does that mean you need a buisiness license or you need a commercial address to ship to?

I'm in the same boat. I know nothing about shipping.

Here are the details of the original company:
            Air Cargo Express
32 Fourth Avenue, Westfield Industrial Estate
            Midsomer Norton
            Bath
            uk

If we're going to use that one, I'll need a lot more details from them. I have no idea where the ship would even come into port.

To ship commercially I think you just have to have it shipped to a business. So essentially it would be that business that is doing the transaction.

                ken

the pallet will go to the port that i do know. but i can find out more tommorow(monday).

will also try dhl, but the larger companys tend to be much more expensive.

although the fedex bussiness quote was a fair price. but who can we use. is there any bmw specialists in that area?

                  that's a great idea.

I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out though.. I need tires really bad and money tends to burn a hole in my pocket. :(

yeah, the 15" bbs are what I really want for my car but I'll be forced to buy tires eventually. I can hold out for a little while longer though.

I'm hoping to have it ready to ship as soon as Jon gets a few more bumpers next week. It's kind of hard trying to facilitate this whole thing by myself though, James is the only person that's expressed interest in helping me out.
If we're going to be using the company in the UK that we had originally planned to, I'll need to know exactly where it would come into port and such so that we can do some paperwork for the pallet. That's why I was hoping to use a larger shipping company, because they can usually take care of the customs brokerage and such.

Sounds like this is getting to be more of a hassle than the outcome is worth.

If you take into consideration the prices that we're getting parts for, it's worth it.

yep. this certain can be complicated but it sounds worse than it is.

as for the shipping company ken there wont be any problems. i friend of mine used to shipped pallets of e28 euro conversions to the states with no problems.

he knows the boss of the company hence the reason why things are now speeding up. but i will try dhl in the meantime.

as said. once this goes through it will make things alot easyer next time. ive got plans for an east coast pallet for another forum member. but lets get this one sorted first. :D

i think one of the mayjor problems was because i didnt have the time to sort everything out with the u,s stuff, mainly due to the demand of everything over here. its been very buzy for me the past couple of months but im now making this my main priority. 8)

                              chris. easy on those tyres.
