now whether you care or not depends on your wallet or how long you intend to keep your car or current driveline

in a weaker transmission, like my girlfriend's geo metro, after enough abuse it's simply not possible to downshift into 2nd or first *without* rev-matching.

in a stronger transmission like the getrag 260 you may not notice it after a hundred or two hundred thousand miles...but whoever changes your oil (assuming you even do change your oil) will see the molybdenum (which is a whole lot more expensive than typical brass syncros).

you're right to note that not double (de)clutching risks premature wear of the pressure plate...but would you rather wear out a consumable or the internals of your extremely expensive and officially non-serviceable transmission?

your syncros are there to smoothly *up* shift. using them to down shift is senseless wear
                  G260 syncrhos are usually brass.

also, they're there for both. and it's called rev matching, which also reduces wear on synchros and everything else. yes, double clutching is stupid for the most part. it might be an interesting skill to learn, but seeing how a G260 will typically outlive the car that it comes in, it's completely pointless to do it in reality.

this is one of the dumbest threads in recent memory. I actually thought it was a thread bump from 10 years ago.

Agh, I see now that it will help me fit in here, but those are such terrible movies....I would like to see the 20-speed manual gearboxes they used, though.

I don't know why you would think that a specific model of transmission would "usually" be something as if some 260's are moly but most are brass...it would be all or none. Maybe you meant to write that syncros in general are usually brass? That is true.

If it was brass that would make the problem even worse since brass is softer and then they wouldn't last as long as you have observed.
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!
