              I have a vintage personal one that should be easy to replicate. pm me if you would like pics and measurements. I get compliments on it all the time. Its the only one i have ever seen.

                    I'd be down for one. I have a door knob style one waiting to get put in when I 5 speed my car but a wood one would be awesome!

                      I'm going to make one tomorrow or this weekend and test it. Ill also hit up the hardware store an look at hardware options for set screws. Wood shrinks and expands with cold/hot/moist conditions so no mater set screw or not the knob will be loos at times.
                      Ill get back and let you guys know when I have made kne and tested it.

                          Ill most likely use something like this to put threads in the woods, and then a set screw can thread into the insert.

                            The set screw's machine threads will tear the wood with pretty much any clamping force. You're better off looking for some sort of metal insert.

                            edit: way to respond to my post right before i post it. Those sleeves look like they will do the job.
