Thread the shift lever, glue a round nut on the bottom of the knob.

old bmw shift levers were threaded. However, most people will want to use them with new ones.

Gluing would not be reliable enough, I think. Can you drill ~3 holes down through the collar, countersink, and put wood screws from them up into the knob?

You can use the stock lever, thread it while it's still in the car, thread on the new wooden knob. You can still use the stock shift knobs even though the lever is threaded..

Sorry guys. I don't think I'll be able to pull this off right now. I jut don't have the time, space and money to get this started. My landlords work space is a mess, and I get the idea she is uncomfortable letting me use her things, and as fare as using equipment at school I just don't have time for that.
I'm going to keep working on this idea but I can't say when it will work out.
I know there is at least one other person trying to get some of these made to sell.
Thanks for all the interest. Hopefully I can work something out later on.

Yes there is ;) I have been just waiting for you to step down since you posted it first. I already solved the issues with the retaining screw.

I am trying to get my OWN lathe, as to not borrow my friends. It is not polite to do batches on someone else's machine.

I can set the coins on the top too, just need perfect measurements to avoid gaping.

All I need to do is locate a good lathe that can handle regular woodworking all the time. PLEASE don't start asking questions on prices and designs in here. I can do any knob you want, just get me a picture ;)

PM me if you want to get in line first. Please include a picture of what knob you want. Coin or no coin, I also have 50+ stain colors and lots of poly with UV protection!

+1 on the not using stain. If you use nice wood it should look great on its own. Stain is for making wood like pine look like something it is not.
I'm going I get back on this horse later on. As stated above its just not right to use other people's tools and time to make your own money.

You can get decent bench laths for about $300. They are not hard to find.
Sorry if some of you got blue balls. lol
Lets see what f34r can turn out.

Yes and no, people also love to match their interiors. White oak is perfect for that, you can mix the stain to match the interior. I have two PMs already about what colors I can do.

I found a 30" lathe for 250 that comes with the tools. So I am trying to sell some parts to get it. I used to make custom spindles for customer's handrailing. I just don't have a lathe anymore, so that is the boat I am in.
