I know you're trying to play devils advocate, but if a wastegate gets stuck closed, then it has failed.

People will always be willing to buy cheap junk just because it's cheap and looks almost the same. I've been down that road enough times to know better. I don't have the time to mess around redoing things more than once because I wanted to save $100 on a part.

hell as it is, I have boxes and boxes of genuine parts I haven't used yet because I don't have the time to do anything with them.

Buying cheap parts for a car is like having an ugly girlfriend. OP's got a good point. Knock-off companies make it hard for smaller companies to innovate and do the R&D when someone else makes a lower-quality version of their part for cheaper.
