If you're dealing with ice, studs help. But if not, they don't. And some states do not allow them.

Yes, as Nsquared said, we get snow. You can do it fine with All seasons, they work. But you need to go slower. Winter tires make all the difference in the world.

Nope. The tires have holes ready to go for them, but MI doesn't allow them. And unless I went ice racing, I never saw any need for them. The only problem I had with my car in the snow was that it just begs you to play with it.

all season tires = no season tires

snow tires are cheap. $400 vs totaling your car. and you can use the same set for 5+ years.

maybe, or you could just be careful with the clutch and throttle and start out in 1st normally.

Just pop that clutch and let 'em spin until you hit pavement.

^ Done it, doesn't work on ice lol! Seriously, snow tires are a day and night difference over all seasons! And the Firestones are cheap as fuck! Check the reviews, you'll be surprised! The predictability in the snow is amazing, although dry road driving can be quite scary if you are traveling at a high speed 70+mph.

Snow tires + 70 lbs sand in the trunk + snow shovel + sea salt + patience + slow driving = safe winter driving.

                                This is the right answer.

I am used to driving my '93 Toyota pickup in the snow... light back end, bald all-seasons, and an open diff. It's not that big of a deal... it just takes a little patience.
