Easy does it, I love my e30 M3 more than anything but I'm not going to be delirious about the facts... again, we can go on and on about twists in the roads vs straight line, and what someone perceives as being "fast" but the bottom line is that newer cars (most cars on the road) are quicker.

Sorry I didn't specify, all these cars are SLOW by today's standards.

Take for instance the e36 M3, plenty of those on the road today can take your 325i/e. One generation up.

Can you turbo? Yes. Can you mod? Of course, something as simple as changing the diff will get you going. Like I said get your car to have fun and get it because you enjoy it but don't get a stock 325i/e/ e30 M3 if you want/expect to be fast by today's standards.

Everything is in the eye of the beholder. I like e30s. Many people do not... I don't like Saturns, many people do. I really like my 325es, not for speed, but for everything else. I really love my e30 M3, not for speed, but for everything else... pretty much the coolest car in my opinion but most people don't have a clue what it is.

agreed on all counts. Certainly no one buys an E30 to have a fast car. If you want a fast car, buy an old 5.0 mustang and mod it a little, or a corvette, etc.

However, there is a metric for speed I sort of call "liveability". I can't live with the slowness of my '84 520i for example. It is such a complete dog that it is actually difficult to drive it, as you have to plan your route to have sufficient acceleration room, and make sure you get in the right lane going up a hill because everyone will pass you, etc. An eta is bordering on "painfully slow", for example my past '85 4-door 325e, while an M20B25 powered E30 can sufficiently get out of its own way, and is "liveable", but not "fast" (by today's standards, i.e. a high end civic). I WOULD however consider an '87 325is fast by the standards of 1987. There weren't many similar classed cars that were that fast then.

So much ETA hate or mad love in here.
I started with an ES. still miss it. and i will for sure get an Auto/ETA/2door to DD in. they are quiet, get good mpg and look great with Euro bumpers.
            Much wow
            I hate 4 doors

This is basically what I think about when a cheap 2002 pops up or other older cars, what is "tolerable" for "slowness" for me.

I have never driven a 2002 so I wouldn't know, but I like the power, or lack thereof of my E since it can get me out of the way, provide a little fun, and definitely keep me out of trouble ha!

For the standards back in the day hell yea, would've loved to have a M3 in '88 but I would have only been 2. :(

There are people out there that will seek the look and engine of the E cars, this guy just went overboard saying "highly" ha!

There was a really nice mtech 1 e which was for sale, around 10k and I was actually tempted to look into it. (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=265929) WTF right? Tell this guy his car is "a slow undesireable E"!

Clean car=clean car, unfortunately this CL guy is missing the hood roundel to start off with... not faded, not cracked up, just missing!

Maybe because I've been around a while, I compare E30's to E30's or other cars from the late 80's. It's pointless to compare them to today's standards because there's always advancements in technology. Virtually every new car today has more power...that's a given. This discussion is whether or not an ETA is considered a rare and desirable E30...and it simply is not. It was a cheaper car so it would make sense that BMW sold more of them. Clearly there are exceptions like the red one that sold for around 10k. It was super clean but if it weren't M tech'd out and nicely modded it wouldn't have gotten that much. Like I said, with engine swaps people aren't so concerned about the engine anymore but more so about the condition of the car and body. I will agree that a clean E30, no matter what model will fetch good money these days.

The "e" stands for "Even without the hood Roundel, this car is rare and valuable."

This whole discussion on "slow" is dumb. As has been pointed out many times, slow is relative. The E30 was rather quick for it's day.

Secondly, "slow" or "fast" has zero bearing on how much fun something is, or how fulfilling it is to operate at the limit. I spend every single work day going 400+ mph, and I occasionally have to fight to keep my eyes open. Boring.

Give me an E30 or a 600-class supersport any day. You can keep your "fast" cars and bikes.

Incidentally, my bike puts down more power than an "E." Haha.

Looks like a pretty nice car. If you dummies stop wrecking them, maybe they won't be as rare...

E is for Extraordinary!!! Maybe it's sought after someone wanting an E30 for the MPGs.
Granted this guy does have a misconception of what his car is but, I would love a clean E hell even with an automatic for my DD and so my fiancé can drive an E30 plus I like the 4drs if it was a secondary DD E30
