the style you're describing sounds like a "rat rod" and by used diesel he's probably either confusing mixing used motor oil with diesel or diesel that's been used as a solvent. either would work to keep something from rusting, not sure if it'd work to keep a rusty piece of something from rusting more, though.

It was on the r3v facebook group. Guy posted a picture of his white e30 something something with a cheap autozone spoiler on it. Today someone posted a pic trolling about swapping a honda motor in their e30.

45yr old self proclaimed master mechanic that has been working on cars for forty+ years, knows everything and can fix anything. He was the fleet mechanic(family connection) for this installation/maintenance company that did everything from HVAC and electrical, to generators and construction.
I started at the company and it was ok for the first couple of weeks until one day I get sent down to this shop to help get some of the fleet vehicles up and running because he is so over worked and needs help. I go down and there are like 10-15 fleet vans down that all have "blown engines" or "blown transmissions" that need rebuilt. One of the supposed blown engines was a stuck torque converter clutch that the guy had no clue and thought I rebuild the motor.
This guy could remove parts and replace them good from what I could tell. He doesn't trust me with anything important so I am doing brakes and tire changes for a week before he gives me a bigger job.
He tells me to remove and rebuild this transmission and put it back in this van. So after it is out I ask him for clearance specs and he doesn't know, not a big deal, look everything up and I ask to borrow his dial indicator so I could get the clearance right for the clutch packs and he say "what are you talking about", I thought he was messing with me so I explained to him what about the clearance with the steels and clutches and he told me that was a waste of time and to just put it back together.
I managed with a feeler gauge though I wasn't happy about it. Then I asked him for his inch/lb torque wrench. He didn't know what I was talking about, what it was and he didn't have one and according to him it wasn't needed. Get out of the way and I will finish myself.
I stayed there another week and worked by myself and brought tools in and took them home at night. He didn't even have a caliper piston compressor. I saw him rebuild engines and transmissions with impact tools and never use any thing for clearances or torques specifications. I never saw plasti gauge and his hands were always filthy and animals came in the shop while he was rebuilding stuff on the floor.
I saw more spun bearings and burnt up transmission that I have ever seen before in my life. That he had all rebuilt. And they went bad because someone didn't know how to drive or there was a bad part or the engine and or transmission was junk and they needed a new one. The crap he would tell the owners of the company was mind boggling. But they ate it all up and continued to give him more money.
One night the company came to the shop and they told me I was doing good at the shop and because of this they were going to leave me down there permanently. I told them I didn't want to stay down there and they said that they wanted me down there and in a couple of years I would be just as good as that mechanic. I quit on the spot.
He also had a 10 second Jetta that had some ungodly amount of horsepower as well. It looked a lot like the one posted ^ on post 212 but it was green. How to remove, install or convert to pop out windows
