screw you man....I prefer to have a light car that is fun in the corners over a car that has HUGE hp and is nose heavy.
handling>HUGE hp
I do think kinda cool but dumb....its gonna be easy to r3v a unbalanced car like that.
Just because I think its stupid to do that for anything but drag racing does not make me inexperienced in the least.
The engine will actually make the car more center balanced, think of an old Toyota MR2 with the entire engine behind the front axle. Obviously this isn't like that in the mid-engine respect, but it's the same weight concept.

I still say lighter is better...that huge engine is higher and bigger...ie screwing w/ the handling. Engine weight is one reason I decided to turbo my m42 rather than doing a s/m50 swap. Although I love the sound of the m50 I really like having a light balanced car.

Well the M62 improves the power-to-weight ratio chief. The adverse effects on the handling wouldn't be noticeable due to his proper suspension adjustments.

well sitting bull, it would help the power to weight ratio BUT more weight ='s slower stopping, acceleration, handling, etc. Although these can be "fixed" its still not going to be the same.
BTW I love how you fools piss in your pants when someone says that they think its dumb to do that to a non-drag car and get all moody...its kinda funny how childish you are

I don't care if you think I'm "fucking dumb"...I'm gonna laugh when you car ends up in a tree or something because you put in like the sweet 16 or something
so what makes me so "fucking dumb" anyway? because I don't agree w/ you? If this was such a great idea then why did BMW never put a V8 in a e30?!?! How come BMW didn't put a V8 in their race e30's?!?!? Grow up little kid...you don't have to be a dick to people online to make yourself fell better about yourself do you?
Jonathan 90 M3 and boom-monkey are ignorant fools....at least Tvan is thinking
The V8 is shorter and being alum (IIRC) means it doesnt weigh much more than (if any) my S50. Being a V means its shorter and sitting farther back in the chassis than my long iron blocked motor means it has some advantages in where the mass of the motor is placed.
Actually being a V means the engine is usually shorter but wider. A guy off BFC put a chevy smallblock into his and with the dry sump was able to get the entire engine (manifolds and all) below the towers while still being above the steering gear.
Engine weight is one reason I decided to turbo my m42 rather than doing a s/m50 swap.
I know that the m50 and m62 are about the same weight but still I don't think its worth the extra weight in a 318is....jeeze you people that get their panties in a wad over trivial things....I don't think its worth it or wise but hey....its not my car or my decision what anyone else does w/ their car. Just like I decided not to put in a heavy engine in my 318is and do a turbo instead. LIGHTER IS BETTER. and w/ a 318is its not just the extra lbs of the engine...you need the 260 and other crap.

like you think I don't know that crap Johny boy...its hard to believe that anyone would think a engine w/ cylinders in a line would be shorter than one w/ them in a V....its kinda common sense
its not a track car, its some guy's weekend project. i really dont think he cares about how well the car starts, turns, and stops, i think he cared about putting a v8 in the bitch.

You honestly think adding 100lbs to a car and more than doubling its power output would make it "suck around anything that even looked like a corner"? Drive a car like that and you'll realize how silly you sound.
I'm done for the night, game on in the morning.

God i hate 318is owners who get all prissy about their cars weighing 200lbs less. Pssst He's got torque. The difference in handling between a stock 318is and 325is is so negligable that only the best of drivers can make use of it. now the power difference between a 318is and a 325is can be used by anyone. and like tvan said, it's N/A power too FTW.
In conclusion:
A 325IS > 318IS, Therefore
A M62 E30 >>>>>>> 318IS and STFU.
asu = teh boo :-P

I'm tired of this guys...The m42 is way better than you guys are giving it credit for. My 318is is faster than my friends 325is amlost every time at the auto-x's. He has azenis I have ziex, he has a m20 I have a m42, He has been auto-x'ing longer than me, you guys can hate all you want but I don't care. My 318is is the only m42 I have ever driven so I don't know how it compares to other 318is's but I know that mine is not much slower, in the straights, than a 325is, if not faster. 100lbs more up front is a big deal not to mention for m42 people needing the 260 and other things that weight more. It doesn't seem much at first but it adds up. I DON'T THINK ITS WORTH IT....end of story....I know my 318is is slower than this "weekend" car and it will be even after I turbo my car but I think my car is more fun than it could ever hope to be. 318is' IMHO more fun to drive then 325is....thats why I bought a 318is. anyway I am done....this is crazy.
I guess people will always hate on the m42
BTW less weight = better stoping, cornering and acceleration than a heavier car w/ the same susp, brakes & power
