Agreed. It's like saying: I test flew some airplanes. 1 was a jet and was fast, the next was a twin prop cessna and was cheaper but sexier. In the end I chose my E39 M5.
Say WHAT??

OR. Its like saying, I test drove a pimped out Honda, It was fast, did swoosh when i would let off the gas. Then i test drove a slammed Toyota mini van. Slow but could carry 7 kids. In the end i decided to keep my e39 M5sigpicComment

The DCT on a 135i is a little detuned compared to the DCT in the M cars. Its still much faster than you could shift yourself though and the rev matching is nice. I'm a manual guy though.Comment

It's true, but isn't part of being mature not caring about what is a more "respected" car? I grew out of that shit in my mid 20's, that's why I own an E30 now. If I hadn't, I'd still be driving some depressingly dull status symbol.Comment

I was intrigued one day so I ate a banana but it was all fruity to me, so then I ate a Hammburjer and kind of like the meat, not really a veggie person. In the end I decided to keep my e39 M5
cool story bro... this need its own thread.
For the OP, go to 1addicts or any legit 1series forums since they probably know better.Comment

Uhhhh yea I'm not sure what I was thinking either.. For some reason I was under the impression they stuffed the s65 in there
What I do know is that my n54 has been incredibly unreliable in the last 20,000 miles. It's only got 75k on it. From having to put in another HPFP to leaky injector to water pump issues. None of which was cheap. Plus I got to find out that the dealer had been just putting band aid fixes on the car until warranty expired. Left a bad taste for sure...Comment

My girlfriend was never the same since the accident. In bed the chemistry just wasn't there, and her personality just didn't appeal to me anymore. In the end I decided to keep my E39 M5.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+Comment

What were they doing? I too am a little worried about potential fixes but its the price for having a twin turbo BMW i guess. A water pump job is going to run about $600. I will do it myself but, I mean WOW! I opted to save my money in an account instead of getting a bogus warranty for repairs.Uhhhh yea I'm not sure what I was thinking either.. Sounds like the e39 M5 was a better choice anyway.sigpicComment

I was out with a friend one night in my e30. We were trina hit some mad tyte drifts and speed but then I almost killed a house. I'm just glad I chilled out cuz I coulda poped my tyres. In the end I decided to keep my e39 M5
On topic,
The N55 can be just as reliable as the NA. To me it never made sense to get the cheap version of any car when in the long run you'll regret it. Not only that but resell value will suffer. These will end up being cult cars so choose wisely.
On another note, I've had the pleasure to drive a 2011 135i all stock except for a plug in tunner that pushed it to 450hp. Funnest car I've ever been in in my entire life!Last edited by Vtec?lol; 05-24-2013, 11:35 AM.

Good question. Some of the displeasure with the car comes from the dealer I went to, but a lot of it is the cost of parts to fix it. When you say check their fixes- No. I never did. I also don't have the tech savvy to say what's what on these new cars. I'm not a mechanic.. I'm a hobbyist and this is a company car. If it were my e30 it'd be a different story.
To give you a few examples (not just the engine):
-Changed 2 coil packs knowing that at least a couple of the remaining 4 were shot. They left the those in the car to die... when it was out of warranty
-I noticed a little grinding noise from under the trans tunnel every time I started the car. It started at about 48k miles and threw up a couple service lights on the dash. Car performed fine but I still brought it in. When I got the car back the lights would be gone but the problem wasn't. Same thing happened about 500 miles later.. Same list of events.. no change. When 52.5k miles came up my transfer case went. I fought for about a month with the dealer to get it cared for due to their neglect. No results. I then went to BMW North America and fought with them for almost 2 months. They denied my claim. I ended up paying out of pocket for the whole thing.
-Ended up needing a whole new set of injectors. The ones on my car were part of the batch that was "recalled" but my particular VIN was not included in the batch of recalled cars. Again- fought with dealer. Went to different dealer. Same thing. And again.. out of my pocket.
-Steering rack always made noise - not a big deal, but I wanted it cared for while I was under warranty. Every time they would say they inspected it and there was nothing wrong with it
That's not even the end of the list but I'll leave it there. I'm not saying all n54 cars are garbage because it's not true. I guess I'm saying that I wish I knew a little more about the weak components in this car before I got it years ago. Now I'm paying for it. I also learned my lesson about getting a car that's beyond my technical understanding.
I really shouldn't have gotten involved in this thread because my opinions are biased.. I really just wanted a crowd to complain to haha
There's some examples above.. I agree with the whole "do it myself" thing but the bottom line is I don't have the time with my work schedule and I don't have the space/tools with my single car garage with no lift. The car is also a bit beyond my abilities even though I like a good DIY like anyone else. $600 for a water pump- and if you think that's ridiculous you should go check out how much a set of injectors will run you. What were they doing? I too am a little worried about potential fixes but its the price for having a twin turbo BMW i guess. A water pump job is going to run about $600. I will do it myself but, I mean WOW! I opted to save my money in an account instead of getting a bogus warranty for repairs.
I just wish I had half the money I put into this thing back so I could put it in one of the e30s..
Sorry for the rant!Comment
