    Caliper rebuild service

Installed some hawk HPS's yesterday, front calipers seem to be not moving so smoothly on the sliding pins so I get a little noise as the pads are not retracting off of the rotors.
My brake fluid looked like shit, the pistons on the calipers were rusty, and I'd rather just get my calipers rebuilt to start my brake system revamp. Any place or anyone that offers this service?

Yeah just do them yourself, pretty easy, just takes some patience. Let us know how you like the HPS, I absolutely hate them on my car.

If you are at all handy, you can overhaul them yourself in about 2.5 hours from start to finish. That said, if your pistons are at all corroded, they should be replaced. When It gets to that point, a set of already rebuilt calipers is more cost effective then buying seal kits, pins and guide bushings, and new pistons.

I just installed HPS on my M3, and while the initial bite is slightly less then OEM pads, once you get a bit of heat into them they are better, IMO. Plus, as a bonus, I just did an old school ralley and put over 300 miles on them in a day, and the dust was wayyyyyyyyyyy less then oem. That's a good thing for me as I run mirror polished lip, ACT three piece wheels.

The HPS's are honestly a hit or miss.
When cold, they are terrible. A lot less bite than OEM pads completely.

When hot, they will rip your face off. But I can't get them warm enough, fast enough when I auto-x'd today. Had to do 2 runs to where I got them to be awesome.

That being said, I am a noob at this whole brake game. I did the proper break-in procedure, but the cold performance is really subpar. Expected a little more for the money I paid to be honest. Not loud at all though, and very very little dust.

Maybe they just need more miles on them.

You can buy them rebuilt for dirt cheap. Blunt sells some pretty nice ones.

Its hardly even worth the time to diy, just pull them out of the box and throw them on the car.

The HPS arent going to rip your face off, ever. Lol. By the time you've got them hot, they overheat and you'd be better off with bars of soap.

What Mr Nando said^ I hated those pads too, and it is much more cost effective to buy rebuilds then waste the time. Or just get a UUC BBK ;D

Buy rebuilt calipers from BMA or Blunt and run better pads. Hawk pads are god awful. I run StopTech Street Performance on my E30 and they are much better than HPS.

I rebuilt my calipers all around it was pretty easy. The fronts I'd recommend using compressed air to get the piston out. After you clean the inside bore and the piston lube it up and put in the inner seal and then install the second seal. After you get the piston and push it into the caliper bore, then you grab the compressed air and blow air in but at the same time you push the piston down. Once the piston has gone down a bit and the seal is around just push it down and make sire the seal is on the lip of the calipers.

The rears are easy, for those compressed air isn't needed. Both of these took like an hour to install

ATE/Girling/TRW/FTE Rebuild kits are 6-8 each and about 30 minutes of time to rebuild each. NuGeon Rebuilt calipers are 40 each + exchange +shipping if applicable. I don't see how it's more cost effective if one is doing everything themselves.

Does the kit come with new slides too? I'd want new slides on my rebuilt caliper
