Straightforward poll: S52 or M6X swap in e30 vert

    simple, chose one...

    goals:

FUN highway cruiser with turnkey ability.

I don't care about gas mileage.
I do not track/auto/X/or drag race the car.

I use it on summer summer days for cruising around national parks, or cruising like a boss in the city with the top down so beeshes can watch my gut jiggle.

to vote in this poll, chose which engine you would chose if:

    money wasn't a concern.
you weren't doing the swap yourself, and paying a reputable shop to do it.

    simple as that.

    don't go r3ving this thread into a "I'D DO A S38 SWAP FULLY BUILT WITH A .60TRIM SNAIL" blablabla...

I've had my M20b25 boosted, it was fun...for the whole week it ran right.

now it's back to N/A and I miss the power.

I'm in love with the sound a M6X makes with the right exhaust, and it's torque band.

however, the S52 is well, an S52....

S52 is going to be the easiest and simplest swap by far.

V8s are cool, but how much do you want to work for it?

if money isn't a big deal, how about an S54? only a little more work than an S52, a bit more cost, but an extra 100hp out of the box?

      Paying someone, S52.

      DIY, M6x.

Just because of the work to get M6x in there, I donno if I'd want to pay a shop for all that labor.

You said money no option, so M6x hands down.

        S52. It's a cabrio.

If you were doing this to a car with a roof, V8 all the way.

The M60/M62 would definitely be fun with a nice exhaust and the top down! The torque would definitely be nice since verts are known for being a little chubby. ;) I've definitely got the V8 itch lately. I'd never do it to my black E30 but maybe something someday!

This, I'd like to see an S54 vert.

I suppose I was being a bit generous with the "money is no object"...

                I have a limit of about $10K.

all for next year, shop will do it (they've done hundreds)

I essentially want to drop the car off, pick it up when it's done, turnkey and drive away.

                S54 will run $10K+ easily.

Has this shop done M60/M62 swaps? They require a lot more custom work vs. the S50/S52 which is plug and play with OEM parts. I'd definitely check on labor costs! The labor charge on the S54 vs. S50/S52 should be very similar though.

depends.. motor/trans can be found for $5k or less, flash under $500, the rest for misc odds and ends plus labor?

They did their 1st m60 swap on a 318 slick top back in 2004.
And specialize mostly in that swap.
They have the brake booster relocate sold as kits etc.

Cost difference out the door for a s52 vs m60 obd1 is about $2200
                      Both with 5spd tranny

So use that 22 hundo and get a 6sp for highway cruising.

kind of opened a whole new dimention really...

I'll email them, see what they say...

that would be complete badass tho...but then again, so would a m62...

there's a youtube vid of some guy with a brown e30+m60 in it(think he's a member here) pulling super hard on a S52 E30 (might be a vert I think..)

is the power band THAT much different>?

                              pretty sure that's jgood's car

it's a whole liter extra displacement.. it's like 60 more hp plus a lot more torque down low.
