i'm not a purist when it comes to anything BMW related, but i'm not swapping in a GM product in my german built car...I at least want to keep the brand uniform, yet I do understand the logic behind it.
I have absolute and full condifence in the shop that will do the swap (either s52 or M60)
...but honestly, after seeing JGood's dynoplot, videos and audio clips, I think it has pretty much sold me on the m60.
others argue "why in a vert"?
well here's my take...
I'm old (34) I don't track/race/drag my car...I want a full experience when getting behind the wheel of my e30.
I want to feel that low end torque, and hear all 8 cylinders firing with the unmistakable 8cyl roar when the opportunity comes.
no, I will not be looking to modify the engine if at all once the swap is done (aside the the basic bolt one exhaust/intake/chip)...no boost, none of that...n/a all the way.
I have the "right" e30 to do this now...
Stage "zero" has been completed for some time now no cart before the horse business here.
-all fuel lines done
-entire new front end
-ss brake lines
-urethane rear trail arm and subframe bushings
-gc coilovers (440/650)+konis all around
....etc etc etc etc
now to make it lively;-)Originally posted by flyboyxi have watched my dog lick himself off a few timesComment

Good choice, you'll never regret low end torque. You'll be doing more to your brakes than stainless steel lines right?

I'm on stock brakes. Same setup I had on my track car when I was racing: $15 cheapo rotors and whatever pads I feel like buying at the time. I actually think I'm on Hawk HPS's right now, which are at the bottom end of the 'performance' spectrum. Never had a single issue with modulation, stopping power, or fading. YMMV depending on how hard you're driving on public roads...Comment

Obviously brakes are an item you can address after the swap as you see the need. 99% of the time your refreshed stock brakes will be sufficient, it'll be that one blind corner you can't resist gunning around that could require a little more emergency stopping power.

And just to put the nail in the coffin... Here's what it will sound like in a vert:

Need to bring this back to life, as reading this made me too excited.
I am considering the same options that were listed here and the V8 looks to be a great choice a specially with all the recent developments in kits from places like Garagistics. So here is the cruiser... (see pic)
So, should it be M60, M62 or S62 or maybe some weird combination that leaves me options for supercharging LOL.
The problem is that I am in Cali so the emissions will have a huge impact on what I can and can't do... any advice on choice and shop would be greatly appreciated.
