I have an automatic e30. Would I prefer it a stick? Yes, but the auto is fine for what it is. The car does have 4.10s under it, so that helps out a lot. It's no rocket, but what e30 is? I find that automatics are fine as long as the car or truck has enough power to pull itself. I've had many automatics and many manuals.

My 'vert was an auto. It wasn't bad, I guess. Worst part was being razzed by friends that it was an auto....
One place I like auto is towing/offroading. Towing with dad's manual Dakota kinda sucks. Towing with my Rover is a breeze (Rover has same auto as e30 so it's relevant)1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5

My e30 is an auto and I prefer it that way. I daily drive my E30 and rather sit in daily 45 minute traffic in my auto than a manual.
However, I do have a 2003 6 speed E46 M3 sitting in my garage should I feel the need for manual trans driving.Owner - Bavarian Restoration
