No they don't/ this is coming from the owner of 3 e24s and a m30b35 swapped e30.

THEY DO NOT! now stop saying things you have no idea about.

I'm not agreeing with the rev past 5500 statement just to agree. I've owned 2 535i e34's and they didn't like to rev much past that. Maybe you got 3 good ones and my 2 were tired. I've also driven a e28 535is and my friend has a e24 635. Either way I'm not calling anyone out just posting my experience with the M30. I love that motor so no need to get upset.

I'm not seeking to argue, I just feel it does not run out of steam. I know the s52 makes 35 more up top, so it will indeed pull away from the m30b35. They are both great engines, both perform differently for a SOHC and DOHC. Pretty much boils down to what you want in there. MPG is not bad in the m30, granted my e30 is really light.

For the record I couldn't give to sh*t about mpg.

I'm absolutely not rev happy. I love low end grunt.

This is for a cruiser, not a racer, or track car.

I want that "oomph" when you drop a gear to pass, and that nice "from a dig" torque feeling.

5500rpm is not seen much with me, I'm an adult. Not a boy racer.

But I do have fun when it's appropriate.

Mr. Burns, I've read this whole thread and based on your last post I think you've already made up your mind and maybe don't realize it. The M30 fits all your needs exactly.

Also I just want to add that I've been driving an e28 535i (with the lower power b34) for several years and absolutely love the torque. My buddy recently completed a fully built S52 swap in his e30, and I personally was very disappointed with the lack of low end grunt compared to my e28.

I personally am pursuing an M54B30 swap in the effort to get what I feel will be the best of all the previous engines: Low end torque, relatively good breathing up top, light weight, and excellent fuel economy to boot.

                S'cuse me, everybody.
Mr. Burns, PM sent, message being I want your M20 but was too busy teaching my daughter to drive to call, sorry about that.

For the sake of general interest, my M20B20 will cheerfully rev past the red-line and is still making what it calls 'power' at those high revs. Anybody that likes life at the red-line should buy an M20B20, but should get used to being out-dragged by loaded semis.

having read through this whole thing, i would go with an m30 any day..
The M/SX swaps just seem kind of worn out to me. I don't even stop to look at them when i see one. Not shitting on those swaps, theres just so many of them and i like to be different i guess. M30 is less common torque in an e30 is awesome
