in all seriousness, what could have caused a failure so early? My guess is bad seals at the front of the engine??
I did the valve oil seals that lead the the timing belt compartment at the same time

Tow it with rear wheels in dolly, lock steering wheel so front wheels don't move.

Yes, the auto trans is only lubricated by the torque converter spinning. Engine not running = not lubricated.

You could disconnect the driveshaft from the diff and tie the driveshaft up out of the way, or tow it backwards.

If you tow it backwards, make sure you use ratchet straps to secure the steering wheel from spinning. Don't trust the ignition lock to keep the wheels pointed straight.

Put it on the dolly like a normal car and just pull the driveshaft. You'll be fine.

So how expensive are those 24v motors lol

If just the valvetrain is jacked i'll just get s new 885 head. If lower end is damaged i may go that route

                  I have both...a 885 head and a 24v engine.

To get to the drive shaft you'll need 13mm socket and 6" extension and 13mm wrench for splash shield bolts. Theres also a body brace in the front splash shield that has 6 13mm bolts. A 10mm socket for the rear splash shield by where driveshaft meets diff. 12mm deep socket or 12mm wrench for the 2 muffler hangers, 13mm wrench for exhaust hanger by rear subframe and I believe a 13mm wrench or socket for the exhaust support in the rear of the trans.

You can move the exhaust just enough to pull splash shields.

Once that's done then use a 17mm wrench to loosen driveshaft/diff bolts. You might have to undo the center support bearing in order to move the driveshaft off the diff once nuts are loosened. CSB bolts are also 13mm I believe.

Play your cards right you can m50 swap your car for under 1k but most people end up spending 1k-1.5k which isnt bad by anymeans.
And pulling the drive shaft is only way to tow it unless you have a trailer or flatbed since you have an auto.

When I was planning to swap with all the stuff I was going to need it was gonna cost me like 1.3k. That was a m50 out of a 525i and me making my own harness.

Wait, towing in reverse in neutral isnt an option in autos?

Just second guessed myself. Can't lock the steering wheel with key in the ignition doh!
