Swapping to a J-Spec H22a in my old prelude almost 14 yrs ago - and subsequent headers and Apex exhaust etc. The previous engine threw a rod. terrible knock; it sat and I didn't drive it until a year later AFTER the other engine was put in. It was awesome, sold it after I left Italy, miss driving though.

5 speed swap and M54B30 swap in my 325xi E46 touring. Left the auto 3.46 differentials (stock diffs are 2.97) and that thing launched like a mofo.

First run after swapping from M20B20 auto to M30B35 manual.

The car went from smooth, slow daily to mental in one hit (and is still my daily :) ). Suddenly overtaking went from needing a good run up and clear traffic to the horizon to effortless.

Ignoring the engine swap, probably when I put the stainless lines, super blue and HP+ on it. It already had R888s on it and the stopping power was downright silly. The pads threw sparks in the dark when they were cold, too, which was fun.

                  5 speed swap..

                  Very close second: MAF conversion.

I've driven quite a few different setups E36 / E36 M3 / Z3 on different cars. Had an E36 M3 Rack in my last car that was the "project car", really any E30 I own now or in the future will have a Z3 rack. There is no other modification IMO that changes the driving the way a steering rack does.

A proper suspension is up there, probably number 2 on my list, but even on just run-of-the-mill sport springs a tighter steering rack turns your car into a very fun go-kart.
                        Dis.

Unless the m30 swap counts. Memorable every-time I drive.

Hard to pinpoint one. S52 swap is right up there...
Maybe the Momo 'Mario Andretti' signature steering wheel. Given that is what I interface with the most, I guess that'd have to be it.
The Massive Brakes 'Sport' BBK is a pretty mind-blowing difference, too...

Shit, not enough to pay for this crap :/ This is a multi-year project, and all this stuff was bought used... Wasn't trying to show off, if that's the implication. But those things made a huge difference in the driving enjoyment of the car.
