You ruled out e30 because of cost of consumables but as someone that has run various mustangs in open track events they are alot more expensive that e30's, miatas, (basically all the lighter small tire cars. Parts a plenty and cheap for the foxbody but tires are what were killing me.

this, the tires alone are probably at least 2x more for a set. I don't see how anything on that list is cheaper to run than an E30.

If it was me I'd be hunting for the cheapest e36 I could find that still had a good engine/tranny. If you could find something solid for <$3000 I think you'd be off to a good start.

                PFC08s for an E30 are $260 a set.

                I still can't believe that.

Everyone is forgetting brakes too. The heavier the car, the more you can expect to spend on pads/rotors.

Miatas are super cheap to run/operate and maintain due to overall design and weight. Tires and brakes are cheap. Parts are super plentiful and cheap too. The motor design is extremely reliable too.

EG civic is the same thing, except wrong-wheel drive.

NB miatas will turn 2:05s at BW CW13 no problem with just the right suspension, 15x9s with 225 RS3s.

EG Civics with a K2x motor swap will put out around 220-250whp and can run sub 2:00s at BW CW13. And, it's a Honda, they're super reliable and cheap (that's why there are so many at the track).

I rarely see foxbody mustangs at open track days, and when I do, they're slow as fuck...

Both an NB Miata or EG Civic will be cheaper to operate and maintain. There's a reason you see tons of Miatas and Civics at the track - they're cheap, easy to maintain, enjoyable to drive, and reasonably quick around momentum based tracks that aren't power heavy.

This is for a "track" car, not a "racecar" - two very different things.

If you're looking for sanctioned competition events - that's a different story. Spec miata is cheap to run, but expensive if you want to be competitive enough to podium and win.

                    ^^^^ Truth. ^^^^

I have a friend who co-drives and is part owner of a Lemons racer, an early 90s Acura Integra (a re-baged Civic really). He gave the same reasons why they chose this platform as a racer. Dirt cheap to run/repair.

                            I voted EG.

I've wanted one since forever, likely going on 20 years now. I'd likely want to ruin your budget and have a k20 build, but I think it has the most go-kart feel to me of the options, even knowing the MR2 actually takes that award, but I'd never fit in one, so I wouldn't vote for it.

For economy and ease, find a track car that someone else has spent lots of time and money, or just lots of money on. I bought a near spece30 for $6k, and it has been basically a bulletproof fun machine. Some of those other cars just feel too small on the inside for me.

This too. It's much cheaper to buy someone's tried and proven track project than it is to build your own.

Buying an already build spec e30 or spec miata is far cheaper than trying to build one from a basket case that you bought for $1k.
