If you run a lot of boost on a huge turbo for your first car you're going to end up in a ditch, with the car upside down. That's just the reality of it. The 325i is plenty fun for a DD - just get a chip for the ECU and that should be all you need. Upgrade the suspension before you upgrade the engine.


In all seriousness, what you're saying you want to do is just not feasible. You don't need a turbo and lots of power to have fun.

I'm gonna go ahead and say please don't buy that as your first car and wreck it. Not a good investment anyway for someone who can't take care of it properly

If you are gonna want power m30 swap it. Turbo is expensive and if this is your first car you'll wreck it before you even get saved up for a turbo. Drive the car for 6 months to a year stock then add power. Giving a 16 year old a turbo e30 is like giving a 16 year old a Ferrari it's gonna be wrapped around a pole within a week cause you thought you were hot shit and tried to race someone.

Save your MOD money for repairs and gas/tires for road trips. No extra HP needed for this car. These are small, light fun cars. Keep them as stock as possible and smiles will stay on your face.

The M20, properly serviced, is a fun, reliable piece of german engineering. But even more important is the handling. Set up your suspension correctly and you'll have yourself a car that truly is a joy to drive. Oh, and braking. Don't forget about brakes. It's all about the balanced car trifecta son.

You're a new driver and you think want x amount of horsepower. I understand-I was there decades ago and thought the same way. I learned my "driving skills" on heavy American sedans with no airbags, bias ply tires, drum brakes, and big, lumpy V8's. I'm lucky to be alive today. You're smart to want an E30, don't go full on crazy and do something stupid. Be safe. Have fun.
