You can even make stuff like early eS/iS/Zender/BBS/Alpina/etc. plastic valences work on late models with some modifications to the mounts. However, most of those already have Late Model counterparts, so you wouldn't really need to.
Stuff like early model Euro valences/bumpers also transfer fine over to early and late model USDM cars with the correct accompanying parts

My 1989 325iS has an 1985 325e 5-speed in it. Most of everything interchanges, you just need to make sure you have the correct accompanying parts/accessories (driveshaft, throwout bearing, shift linkage, harnesses etc.)

Black (schwarz) '89 has contrasting diamond schwarz bumpers, i believe the only plastic bumper car to have mismatched bumper/body colors.
