I used to be a technician, and cannot overstate how effective that technique is. Tipping a tech is nice for one tech, for sure, but buying a couple pizzas for the shop makes you everyone's best friend.
OR, you can go to an enthusiast owned shop where the owner daily drives and owns e30's, so does their tech(s), and there's no such thing as a "service writer".

Too bad we are located in the southeast corner of the US. :(

they called me and said it was ready and when i walked in i had a 20 in my hand for the tech. he then blurted out,(you better call your ride back, you have a fuel leak). can't begin to say how fast the 20 went back into the wallet.

Wait are you being made to pay for the tank yourself?

                          Bummer, bro.

I've had two shops do work on my car, and I made sure they knew something about BMWs and E30s before I even let them look at it. I'm not trusting some grease monkey hack from some chain store with my baby.

Hope they fix it right. They better be absorbing the cost of the tank, otherwise, I'd sue their asses.

My Dad bought a written off 323i at the salvage auctions which was immaculate from every angle except underneath. All damage was to the floorpan - it had clearly been lifted incorrectly on a hoist; the damage was to the point where an insurance company wrote it off!

A dented fuel tank could be the least of all our concerns!

well, i got her back with a brand new spectra fuel tank. they fixed the control arm bushing and guess what? the original clunk/vibration is still there. while digging in there myself, i find out the problem the whole time is a warped rotor.

seized guide pin seems to be the culprit.
