    steam coming out my ears

the eta hasen't been in a shop for 4 years as i don't have anyone around me that knows our cars. that said, i had minor surgery on my back last week and also loaned out my jack and stands. the car needed a control arm bushing, simple for a shop right??? WRONG, the asshole placed the lift right under the fuel tank. so as my car sits there, leaking out my 12 gallons of high test, i sit here running down a new tank for these knuckle heads to instal. gee, i wonder if their smart enough to r and r a tank. grrrrr

Annddd this is why I do my own work, even though I hate working on cars, and I'm not very good at it. Sorry to hear.

It's rare an e30 comes in our shop that doesn't have dent in the tank. Seems like techs just kick the lift legs under the car and don't pay attention. We work on every car as if it were our own. Difference between an enthusiat owned shop and just a run of the mill general repair shop.

            Sorry to hear this :(

Sorry to hear that. It's people that don't pay attention racking a car that give shops like that a bad name. I know at my shop we have to techs that are almost 60. And they just kick the rack under the car and lift it. Definitely not a good idea.

Why I do my own work. I don't trust other peoples work unless they are very reputable and I know they know what there doing, but even then I'd prefer to do it myself for the learning experience and money saving.

Whenever i have to go to a shop (inspections or tires for example), I always go to a shop were I am friends with the service manager. Even then, I go in to the shop and point out exactly where to lift from. I'm sure it annoys the techs, but if they do the job without screwing anything up, I buy the shop pizza for lunch. An extra twenty bucks makes sure they all take extra special care of my car.

I used to be a technician, and cannot overstate how effective that technique is. Tipping a tech is nice for one tech, for sure, but buying a couple pizzas for the shop makes you everyone's best friend.
