realistically your the only one at fault here, ive sold TONS of cars on craigslist, do you have any idea how many people hit me up saying "i want your car, i just have to sell mine first!!!!!!!" do you know how many of them have actually come thru? yea.. none
you made two major mistakes, you were looking at cars when you didnt have money to buy one and you told other people about a "potentially" good deal.. i dont even go on craigslist unless i have extra money to spend because if i find a good deal i buy it, rite then.. not a week or two from now when i find some money..
this is a forum, most people (especially regardless of post count) arent your friends in real life, i cant say i wouldnt have done the same thing if i were in the situation and had the funds and the person who told me about it was dicking around..
lastly, and this is nothing personal because i obviously dont know you, but just something i see WAY too often, you claim you were going to "fully restore" the car, yet you didnt even have the money up front to buy it.. how exactly were you going to fund a full restoration of it..IG: haggardfab

You obviously didn't read all my posts. I offered to pay the full price up front same day I saw it from 4 hours away having never seen the car and I offered a deposit all 3 days and maybe you missed the part about it was Saturday (bank closed), Sunday (bank closed), and on Monday I had cash in hand we had a time arranged Tuesday at 2 to meet up and then Monday night after I sold my car I returned home to find a I got bad news email. I have the money to fully restore it thats not the problem, you are basically being a condescending prick trying to imply I'm some broke teenager on craigslist do your research on google you'll see the 3500 is not a problem. I dont blow money like a retard, I offered a deposit having never seen the car. Then when he said his parter buddy wanted it I offered to buy it full amount sight unseen. Yes I'm not talking about a 70 grand skyline sight unseen but spending 3500 on anything sight unseen is a risk regardless of bank account size. We are talking about a 3500 dollar car and 5 grand to restore it. Not a vintage Aston Martin. If you got money to blow you can donate to my campaign for State Representative. I can get you the details and any donations help :)

all that reply to me is "excuses excuses excuses excuses"
i wouldnt take a deposit on a car either, you want the car come get it with cash in hand,
dont get butthurt now becuase you dicked around and someone else bought it.. also it seems a little fishy that the dude sold it for $200 less the night before you were "supposed" to come.. sounds like theres a little more to the story then your saying, perhaps maybe dude was tired of your excuses why you havent bought it yet?
regardless, ive never missed out on a good deal on CL, ive bought cars at 2 and 3am because i knew they would be gone in the morning..IG: haggardfab

Well honestly, I empathize with OP. The problem I see here with the seller/buyer is:
1. OP offered to put a deposit so he could hold it. The seller refused and promised him a week. That in itself was on the sellers accord.
2. The buyer acted very helpful and friendly to OP, only to ask for more info and go behind his back, offer 200 dollars less and pretty much fuck OP in the ass.
OP was honestly just putting faith in these two parties being good, stand up guys but in turn got fucked over because of his naivety. So yes, OP you did screw up by giving the buyer more info about the car, but also, the seller is an asshole for not sticking to his word and the buyer is a dick for sneaking behind his back to steal OP's deal.
I believe that as a seller or buyer, whether it be on paper or just a verbal agreement, you should stick to your word. Now, if someone offers more than the person who you are holding it for, then by all means, sell it to him. But 200 dollars less? Come on.

That's why when I found my euro spec I told no one and the people that knew thought I already had it. Whats funny is someone post the craiglist add on here for my car like a week after I picked it up. The guy I got it from had someone come to him with 300 more then i paid but turned it down cause he knew It was getting a full resto and honored dibs.

Do you hear yourself? Im 4hrs away and saw a car Saturday evening that I contacted the seller said hey I'm 4hrs away and so you know I am serious I will put MY MONEY where my mouth is and put a deposit till I can get to the bank Monday morning. I then contacted the buyer of my e30 and said I found a car I want come buy my e30 so I could have cash in hand FASTER than waiting for the bank to open Monday. I explained all this to the seller told him whether I sell my car or not is irrelevant because I will buy your car right now full amount sight unseen just to keep the parters away from it because worst case I get there and I bought a parts car. Its not throwing 70 grand at skyline in Tokyo like you do. You also talk about buying cars at 3am. Okay so I should demand this strangers address so I can drive 4hrs and stand outside his door or something? This wasnt a typical craiglist deal like you are talking. This is people on this and other bmw forums who try to present themselves as stand up guys. We've all dealt with craiglist deals. Not everybody selling a bmw on craiglist just happens to be the one of most popular people in the boosted world and a very popular and highly recommended member of every BMW forum under the sun. And the seller sells tons of e30 parts on here and other places. So these are people that the people who are reading this are familiar with not strangers on Craigslist. You dont even sound rational when you talk. Most 50 year old family men aren't meeting strangers at 3am with wads of cash 4hrs from home for a car on craigslist. So can you now understand, I had the money, I offered the money, he used me to get his buddy to give hime more than his buddy was offering but still not as much as me, all while me being completely transparent and punctual about returning messages, and being far more respectful and serious than a time waster on Craigslist. Nobody is right or wrong. This is about my experience and how we can all be humbled at any time. The post is titled karma not "hey *** is a jack ass" and I'm talking shit. This is about reflection. You can see the people who share their experiences and then those that try to breakdown forensically what happened. Its pretty simple what happened. The part that bothers me is the fact that this guy knew this car was there a year and made 4 offers and got told no, then he hears someone is about to outbid him so he steps in and pulls the bro deal card. The reason its disturbing is because the only reason the parter knew I was buying the car is because I contacted them saying " hey I'm about to buy this car and lets boost it up silly, so sell me an upgraded turbo and a front mount." the say no prob congrats on buying your new car and heres what we can do. I then got loose and said "yeah its the car he wouldn't sell you so you could part it". That made him mad that I didn't have to buy all the parts at a premium from him instead I got a whole car for what he charges for parts. Well the greed took over and silence. Still now, no reply. Yeah, tldr on the last long post by OP. We're only hearing one side of the story. This thread is useless.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"
