Probably a Honda F20c... I've heard they can handle tons of boost. And I think it's an aluminum block motor too?

With a properly set up suspension, your not gonna notice the weigh difference to upgrading to an S54 (those are aluminum block I think? I may be wrong). Plus a good driver knows how to get a car to rotate how he wants.

S54 is cast iron, and fairly heavy. That said, it's a glorious powerplant.

Ah I thought I remembered it being aluminum alloy. even then, in a properly set up car, it should be pretty minimal, plus with all that extra power, you won't care.

If your really worried get an aluminum block M52 and do some head work and such

Honda K series. There are swap kits to put them into S2000's

                      300whp N/A is repeatable. 250hp+ N/A is relatively simple

                      Oh, and it's definitely light.

It's a popular Lotus Elise swap as well

                        It's no Millington Diamond.

As for more realistic production motors though, I quite like the Ford/Mazda MZR/Duratec, particularly the 2.5 L5VE. 90KG is incredibly light for a 2.5.

Yes, but the K20/24 hybrid is infinitely more accessible.

MZR is definitely in the running, but a high-spec (Formula Atlantic) motor is cubic dollars. Same reason tuning a 4AGE sucks so much, mega bucks for the parts due to the race series, and nobody to help for cheap because they all keep their competition tuning secrets.

I agree. I think the Honda K has huge potential in an E30, and there are a ton of donor motors out there. The only issue is the swap is not super easy.

                              Has it been done before?

There is a guy on R3v who had figured out most of the swap (pan, flywheel, mounts), but found that he had a bum engine with a dropped cylinder liner. I would love to do this project sometime in the future with a CNC head and aggressive cams to get around 300whp with a 2.4, just for the sake of balance over an S54 and to see if the grass really is greener on the other side.

But... an S54 is no joke in an E30. It is awesome, even without a tune.
