Actually a vvti 1j is about the same weight as an aluminum ls1. It came from the factory with a single turbo so it drops weight quite a bit. The 2j with stock twins is just under 600lbs and is a fat pig

    Opinion time.

    VQ37vhr
Decent engine, not light enough vs an LS to warrant it over the LS.

    LS1
Practical choice, good power potential, not too heavy. If you want reliable power and don't care about originality, best choice.

    Rotary engine. I say 2 13b's together
Light, good potential, oh wait, just saw the second part you're crazy or have multiple tens of thousands of dollars to spend on an engine.

1LR-GUE Hey a guy can dream
Don't even need to address it.

    Coyote 5.0
Good choice, really expensive though. Heavier than an LS.

    1/2JZ
Pig fat, heaviest engine on the list, overrated, cool if you want a drag car, oh wait, no it isn't, because it's more played out than pop music.

    M30
Good engine, strong, not too terribly heavy, hard to fit. Cheap.

    S54
If you want coolest, best not to do a swap a bunch of other people are doing. Costs a lot, not light. Good power NA, not much torque. If you're going to turbo it, save money and get a cheaper 24V I6.

    S65
$$$$$ and not so much to show for it except cool factor.

    4G63
    Better off with an F20.

yeah, it doesn't make sense. if you're worried about piston/valve contact, you'd have the same limitations on absolute cam position with or without it. It's basically like people who think deleting whatever random stuff they don't know the function of will make a big increase in power.. I remember a guy locally with an E39 M5 that claimed it came from the factory without VANOS and made more power than a regular M5. :|

you can limit the travel in software. pretty simple - primarily you would limit the amount of cam retard. again, the limitations would be the same with our without VANOS.

deleting the electronic throttle is another one - the electronics are way faster than human perception; it's not like there's a 100ms lag or something. And the e-throttle linkage works poorly with a throttle cable, in a lot of ways it's significantly worse for throttle response & drivability (unless you only ever drive at WOT). Also, it costs more.

(Oh yeah, sorry, hit edit instead of quote)

Lol. I don't even smoke. I just felt like saying it because company's have put two of their I6 motors together to form a v12. The m70 is two m20's.

It does happen a lot, but thankfully the broken tab stays put most of the time, and doesn't bounce off the timing chain.

I guess its what you expect from the car or engine. I love small and mid size n/a engines that are capable for high revs. and hps. so thats what I would to for my dream setup. 240z with f20c engine.
