    E30 Key snapped -- no spare... What can I do?

    Crap -- key snapped... No copy... have 2 blanks...

    What are my options?

    You got a dremel/file and a clamp? That original key is so worn you just need to get the blank close to the original shape and it should work fine. Otherwise, locksmith.

      As long as it's not broken off into anything important and you have all the pieces, you can go to a locksmith and have your blanks cut.

      Or diy it like 86gt said.

            Order a new key from BMW using your VIN and title. Then rebuild all your locks to work correctly with the new key. Finally, get a locksmith to cut your blanks to with with the fresh key. You'll go another 20+ years before needing to fix the locks.

              Have one blank cut with your broken key. If that newly cut blank works, have the other blank cut.

              Then, order a new key from bmw.
              Current:
              1989 325i
              1988 M3
              1987 325ic
              Past:
              2001 330ci
              2001 M3

                looks like a lame brass key - break/bend was inevitable.

                  Called the locksmith -- he claims he might not be able to do it depending on where the key blade is broken -- because his vice won't be able to hold both... FML

                    If you go to the dealer with your registration they can give you the key code. Locksmith will know what to do with that, surely.

                        I ordered a VIN cut key from the dealer and it works fine with my existing locks--you don't need to change out any other locks. My hookup cost was ~$43, make sure they order the illuminated key and not the valet key or something stupid. You'll need to produce the title in your name and ID before they'll order it.

                            Get a replacement from the dealer like 3 other people have said. it will be a match for your car unless your locks have been changed previously. IIRC every bmw has 11? keys available when new
