Paint chipping. How do I stop it?

Hey guys, my trunk paint has been chipping since I got the car a couple months ago. I want to make sure it doesn't spread but I have no idea how to stop it. It is a respray of the original color. I don't want to respray the whole trunk and spend money and hope the color matches. I could respray the whole car but the paint is great everywhere else. What do you guys think?

P.s. Plz excuse the thumb caught in the picture haha

Is that paint or clearcoat? Either way you'd only potentially stop it by painting/clearing the edges, which would look horrible.

If it's just clear you can slowly work all of it off at your own peril and prep/reclear.

Washing it with a rock usually prevents further chipping

Looks like clearcoat to me, probably just a low quality repaint. I've had it happen to a couple of cars. It won't stop, and I don't know of any way to save it other than a respray.

My car was resprayed in burgundrot. The paint mostly looked fine when I picked it up, but it's peeling off in 1-2 inch flakes now, everywhere.

If it's only peeling on the trunk, I'd say you got off pretty lucky, but I'd be weary.

FWIW, I think sanding and re-spraying is the only way to permanently solve this. So, getting a pint of paint that is color matched and test painting it under the trunk would be the best way to go about this - if not, I wouldn't imagine it costing a great deal to have a body shop paint a panel.
