I thought that the prices were so low because of the huge profit the oil companies posted?

jack the price up, i like it like that.

means it keeps the trash off the streets and more open roads for me.
plus news media covering gas prices takes the air time which would be normally replaced with random shitty issues that dont matter. best part about the price coverage is watching everyone squirm about it and still pay out the nose. like bush said, its our god given right to be able to drive what ever vehicle we want and consume gas to provide for it.

Hahahaha that's a point I never thought of!

There are less crappy cars on the road now.

Heres a really cool site to figure out gas prices. Leave it to NY to keep taxes high. No savings yet here.

Check out the heat map for average unleaded gas prices around the country for both Canada and the US. Type in your city to see a local gas prices map.

This whole oil thing is strictly political. Notice how the pipeline in Alaska shut down and prices still manage to drop, I find that kind of odd. Oil companies gouge prices depending on the political climate. I can almost guarantee that once the elections are over in November prices will begin to rise again.
You are a dumbass, dont ever talk about anything that matters. Im not saying this because of anything personal, I just thought you should know.

They have been getting record profits for a long time now, every quarter is a new record. As a business they have to respond to the market, and growth has slowed. Also, since you are an idiot, you wouldnt know that oil/petrol is traded just like other commodities. Do you blame Bush when the price of orange juice goes up too?

Also, as far as govt goes, your local and state governments are going to have a hell of a lot more to do with your gas prices than our President or anyone else that will be going to Washington next year.
              Im now E30less.

                Nobody will ever believe that.

                Example:
GAAAHHH!!! A hurricane hit New Orleans! It must be PRESIDENT BUSH!!!
He created the hurricane to put the poor and impoverished at a disadvantage!

It's actually far more likely that all the hot air generated by the liberals collided with the cold front originating in Hilary Clinton's vagina, creating a huge, destructive cyclone.

Using liberal-style logic, that could have generated the post-Katrina spike in gas-prices.

If bush was chummy with all the top execs of the orange juice growers, maybe. Maybe Jeb is the one to talk to about that.

Commodity or not, government has a large role in policy of oil, and when everyone at the top tiers of the government is best friends with the execs of oil companies, I think they at least have influence in the buying patterns and supply control of big oil.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for capitalist profit, I work for one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. If big oil isn't the evil empire, plenty of people will tell you my business is.

Personally I think gas is underpriced in the US, and it's probably a good idea to price it at parity with europe to discourage overuse. Unfortunately the trend in the US since WWII is for people to live in suburbs, putting them at a further distance from the big cities where their work is. I think more americans have a need to drive further in the course of the day. Of course some friends from England were in town recently, and they reminded me that the ford focus is the average size car, and that petrol is friggin expensive. They don't have to drive far at all, it's a tiny island, and commutes aren't like NY, DC, and LA suburbs. If you want to drive your hummer, that's fine, but you should be willing to pay a higher price to do it.

                    PEAK OIL FTW

there is a guy on one of the local forums here who posted his receipt for 0.29/gal gas. Turns out the gas station f'ed up and instead of 93 oct being 2.89 it turned out they made it 0.289. He filled up his civic for less than 3.00 bucks. Wish I had found out about this yesterday instead of today.....damn

Im a dumbass because I made a valid point? Seriously man just chill out, your tampon needs changing. Our president himself has owned or been a part of many oil companies. Do you honestly think that he is working to lower gas prices?

He is chummy with them for another reason. He doesnt control them, they control him. Its about lobbying and money. They honestly wouldnt risk a damn cent to save Bush's ass, the only ass they are worried about are their own. They still have to answer to THIER bosses (CEOs asnwer to directors and directors answer to common stock owners), many of which arent even americans.

Ive seen this shit, been to the meetings. My dad is a VP for another evil empire and they throw gobs of money making politicians do what THEY want. As for oil, nothing has changed in policy in the past few weeks and I garun-fucking-tee the industry wouldnt throw away their profits just to save the career of some politician they couldnt give a damn about. They just want to make sure they can buy out the next one coming in.

Its all about the economy. Your industry is the same, they charge more for drugs here (not because of our govt) because they CAN. They pay off their R&D here and then marginalize their profits worldwide. Selling the same drug for 10c profit on Africa just means they have 10c they didnt before, it doesnt mean they can afford to sell it to everyone for 10c profit.

Hell, I'm 42, a taxed-to-freakin'-death small business owner, and yet I abhor that ignorant, lying sack of poo! Dropped the ball on Katrina, Iraq, No Child Left Behind, education in general, student loans(gotta pay for Iraq, ya know!)...too many to mention...

Anyone stupid enough to say "the problem with the French is they've no word for entrepreneur" should not be in a position of power!

Ah, hell.....Dick & Don really call the shots anyway....Bush just rides the train and takes the pain.

The current "my god can beat up your god" anti-diversity platform the GOP seems to be on these days is genuinely shameful....

I personally wish gas would hit $4 and stay there. We'd get about half the trucks off the roads that way. More trains FTW!
