    Eh, renault vs mclaren? im pretty sure, no, positive you mean FERRARI and mclaren.

    And dont give me this 'well ferrari has better cars' mumbo jumbo. the mclaren is a much stronger car right now, althought it is looking to be a bit closer. france did not prove much to recoupe from the few off races they have had earlier this season, ie 59 seconds from 1/2 to massa in 3rd at manaco.

      So which of you utes caught todays' race? If you caught qualifying on Saturday there was a blurb about an explanation to Ferrari's lagging performance as of late. As the story goes, there was an accident during wind tunnel testing and said wind tunnel suffered some damage. How this came to be I am not exactly sure but in the game of F1 you never let your opponents know every trick up your sleave. Could be lip service for all I know.

      The race itself was pretty good although not as exciting as Canada. Heidfeld did a good job of making Alonso work for a chance to pass....he clearly wasn't going to hand it to him on a silver platter. The runners up front pretty much had clear track so there wasn't much to get wowed about. Hamilton dropping from second to third was tossed about but the rookie still finished on the podium. One has to wonder if there will be a race this season where he doesn't get to taste the victory champaign....the boy is on a roll.

      Next weekends' race at Silverstone marks the half-way point of the season. McLaren is clearly the powerhouse of consistancy this season - they've had very few gremlins to sort out. Ferrari looks to be coming back - lets see if they can pull a few upsets and send Ron Dennis home in PO'd. Although BMW is a way back in the points (drivers' and constructors), they are well ahead of last years' winner, Renault. Kudos to Kubica for finishing 4th today....his first race after his violent wreck in Canada.

        I was a bit dissappointed in BMW... I would assume they could stay close enough that since Hamilton stopped 3 times and Kubica and Heidfeld only 2 they should have both passed. ATLEAST Kubica.....

          3 stoppers at Magny-Cours are very fast. the pit lane is short as wellas the fact that mclaren/hamilton was much faster than either of those cars.

          hell, schumi [the otherhamilton as a few of you seem so keen to point out] has won in france 8 times, once with a 4 stopper, a call schuie made himself after being held up in bad traffic.

            i am just saying it as BMW is close... really close... it was a couple secondsfor Kubica to make up the whole race to pass on Hamilton 3rd pit ;)

                I wish kimi placed over hamilton. But hopefully kimi will be able to prevail on top... Skoda FTW!

                  Man, he wouldve easily had it if he hadnt gone so wide on the last turn. Hamilton's dad is quite the attention whore now. Wtf happened to Massa? He was two tenths off the leaders. Davidson's off was hilarious. What a moron.

                  As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
                  You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

                    The difference in time between Kimi and Lewis is the equivilant to splitting hairs....so very very close. I think those two will be the ones to watch tomorrow. Massa seems to be lagging a bit but I won't rule him out - he can be quick when it counts.

                      Personally this year has been the most interesting one this decade. Half way point, 8 races completed and four drivers have 2 victories each.

                      Tomorrow should be interesting.

                        I feel like a tard because I started this thread, and I've hardly watched more than 4 races. But I just got a DVR, so I'm going to start recording them all.

                        Tomorrow's race should be interesting, indeed.

                          Yeah, i cant wait for tomorrow's race, hopefully tomorrow's race will be something like this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0

                          Even though i wasnt alive this is my favorite series of f1 to watch/study, i dont think it will ever be the same. To drive like Gilles and Rene you have to turn off your brain and just drive.

                            Holy shit. Thanks for posting - I'd never heard of/seen this. Got a little adrenaline rush just watching it.

                              well if the FIA has its way the cars will be passing like that again.

                              i think hamilton is lightest on fuel, look at last week when mclaren stopped 3 laps before ferrari. hamilton would of had pole even if it required him to be running on fumes, its a publicity stunt.

                                anyone read some of the crazy ideas bernie has for future f1 regs?

                                The World Motor Sport Council met in Paris on 27 June, 2007. The following decisions were taken:

                                FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

                                The WMSC received a report on the status of current discussions* on the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2011. Proposals include:

                                Engine efficiency
                                To limit engine power by imposing a maximum energy flow rate. However, there will be few restrictions on the engine cycle, which can include turbo-charging and energy recovery. It is believed that this will lead to a gain of at least 20% in thermal efficiency.

                                Drag
                                To allow moving aerodynamic devices, which will reduce drag by over 50% and allow a 40% reduction in the power required to maintain current speeds.

                                Energy recovery
                                Energy will be recovered during braking and returned to both front and rear axles when accelerating. The amount of energy returned on each straight will be limited in order to prevent top speeds exceeding the safety criteria for the circuits.

                                Fuel
                                The total amount of fuel energy to be consumed during a race will be regulated, encouraging further overall efficiency. The CO2 emitted will be further reduced by the introduction of gasoline which is partly derived from sustainable, non-food bio sources but complies fully with pump fuel legislation.

                                Overtaking
                                Formula One cars currently find it very difficult to overtake because of the influence of the car in front. New aerodynamic rules will halve the downforce, and de-sensitise the car to the influence of the wake of the car ahead. It is also proposed to eliminate automatically the downforce deficit of the following car.

                                Regulations
                                The best estimates of what these measures will mean in terms of regulations are currently as follows:
                                • 1.3-1.5 litre, 4-cylinder engine;
                                • no RPM or boost limit;
                                • energy flow rate to generate 300kW, including energy recovery from the exhaust;
                                • 200kW brake energy recovery, front and rear axle;
                                • 400-600kJ energy return per straight;
                                • pump-legal bio-fuel;
                                • FIA specified and supplied undertray and possibly other aerodynamic components;
                                • 50% 2007 downforce;
                                • adjustable, regulated wings and cooling;
                                • automatic downforce adjustment when following another car;
                                • lap times and top speeds maintained at 2009 levels;
                                • over 50% reduction in fuel consumed.

                                Costs
                                A number of measures to constrain costs are proposed, including:
                                • standardisation of components;
                                • homologation of components and assemblies;
                                • material restrictions;
                                • extended life of assemblies;
                                • restrictions on personnel and work at races;
                                • restrictions on the use of certain facilities (eg wind tunnels).

                                All these measures will be developed into detailed regulations in close collaboration with the teams and manufacturers.

                                The FIA is the governing body of motor sport and promotes safe, sustainable and accessible mobility for all road users across the world. It works across three areas: Sport, Mobility and Campaigns.
