E30's are 20-ish years old. To even things up a bit, race a 20 year old stock civic in a stock 325 and see what happens..... Technology has come so far in the automotive word that comparing a 20 year old car to a new car is just stupid. Or like others have said put a "more modern" M50, s5x into the car to at least bring the motors up to 10- 15 years apart. When you think of the age difference and the price difference in a newer civic and an E30 the E30 will come out on top, with money to spare.

I may be a wuss but once I get past 100 I punk out and slow down to 80.

If you want real speed, just drop an m52 in it. Pretty easy swap. Just be careful. Its bitchin fast. We did an ls1 swap into an 86or7 635csi(not positive if thats the exact one) and that was just beautiful. Simply amazing. I was not allowed to test drive it tho:( . I have already been twice before for some fairly big payouts. And bossman didnt want me to wreck the pretty car. But the e30 m52 swap still takes the cake. Then the cookies. Anybody racing you will get .

Yeah, they really aren't that much faster than M50 cars... sometimes even, right permit? :o Now, S50 e30s can get you into more than enough trouble.

No matter how many times it's said, don't live your life a 1/4 mile at a time, make it fast enough for you, and don't be a complete idiot on the street. That said, someone give me a twinscrew s/c, thanks.

those that get it get it and if you dont then you just dont i cant break it down any simpler than that
glad to know im not the only one. And I did do some searching, but the site is organized in a manner I'm not familiar with. Also, there wasn't a 1/4 mile, 0-60 thread to my knowledge. I dunno, maybe I'm wierd, but I like to know the stats. Something that I really like about e30s is that chips really do something to the car. Before I ask how much, I'll spend an hour searchign to find some numbers of how much. Glad to be here, sorry if you found this thread pointless, I didn't :)

a 325is with minor mods (chip, etc) should be able to do a mid 15-sec 1/4 mile pretty easily

May I suggest that in the event you purchase an e30, you spend money on only maintenance/safety items, no upgrades and enroll in a DE.

A scary fast drag car is like hard liqour while an e30, much like a fine wine, is to be savored.

Get on google video and look for " spec e30 " to see how much fun you can have with the stock powerplant.

I don't need a speed demon, as handling is my #1 priority, but I don't want a slow car. If i get can easily whooped by b16 civics, integras, modded neons and the like, what's the point?
If you have to ask this question you'll probably never understand the benefits of owning an E30

just buy something and put a wing on it...

                            x2!

One thing that the E30 has over those ricers is that its a very HEAVY car. So when you take that sharp corner, you will still be in your seat vs. taking a ricer around that same corner and losing your grip on the wheel because your center of gravity keeps shifting.

I like my hard liqour mixed with fine wine then :)

I had a feeling that someone would bring that up. But you are definitely right, the stock powerplant is plenty of fun. Add power later.

My eta was plenty fast for me. In all of it's 121hp 4-door automatic glory, it was still better than any Civic I have driven.
