I just saw one at my local dealership while driving during the late hours of the night. It was black with that same tan-ish color interior, and it seriously looked stunning. I looked at it for a good 10 minutes before a police officer asked me to leave, apparently the BMW dealer still has 24 hour police security...
It is gorgeous, I must have one. Sticker price here said $41,000Reminiscing...

If you wanted a true light weight modern BMW-esque car, look at the new Mini Cooper S. Its HP and torque are marginally more than a E30 325i and its curb weight is a little over 2600 lbs. I know it may be wrong-wheel drive (i.e. FWD), but given all the praise these cars have been getting since its introduction, I'm sure it may be a compromise many are willing to accept. Whats more, once some tuners get their hands on that new turbo motor, the true potential of that car will be realized. And it can be had for under $30K.

Yes it is smaller than the current 3 but its not a whole lot lighter. I would have to agree with a previous post that if you want a light weight modern BMW, look into the Z4 3.0L. My brother test drove one of these last Sunday - he currently drives a '06 330i so these two cars share the same engine. His impression of the test drive was a positive one. He found the ride & handling to be refined and overall performance seemed to be barely any slower than the modified '98 M3 coupe which he just sold.

I agree.
1-series weighs 300-400 pounds more than it should.
Z4 Coupe @ 3000 lbs rocks.
Mini's are fun as shit at the track and can be made lighter than 2500 lbs all day.

Gents, let's not forget that the 135i can be ordered for $34,900 plus destination. The ones dealers are ordering for their lots are well-equipped and thus near-or-over $40,000, but if you special order an absolute stripper you can have it for $34,900.
I personally wish I could order one as an absolute stripper AND without a sunroof and with cloth seats, but it just isn't meant to be.
Now, the 135tii on the other hand...
