Exxon and other big oil control OPEC? :|

No one needs to mess with supply to drive up prices. Demand is crazy because of emerging markets. Or did you not read the Olympics are going to be held in a nation that was third world a few years ago and has 90 times more cars than it did in the beginning of the nineties?

forget the conspiracy shit you ate up, we did this to ourselves.

i heard that China has a fuel subsidy (sp?) which means that they are only paying a $1.50 per gallon and the government picks up the rest of the bill......

kinda makes sense a lil. with how much money the US injects into their economy via buying EVERYTHING possible from over there, they can afford to pay for fuel for their population.

Yeah but they don't need to. They can blow a gasket, have tantrum, yell obsenities in the middle of street and gas will still be $4+ a gallon and the only thing that they will have done is raise their own blood pressure.

China buys it's oil as a country. They get it for a bit less because they buy alot and then they sell it at a subsidized level to their citizens.

            that is correct. http://www.iags.org/china.htm

ith real gross domestic product growing at a rate of 8-10% a year, China's need for energy is projected to increase by 150 percent by 2020. to sustain its growth China requires increasing amounts of oil. Its oil consumption grows by 7.5% per year, seven times faster than the U.S.'

Consequently, by year 2010 China is expected to have 90 times more cars than in 1990. With automobile numbers growing at 19% a year, projections show that China could surpass the total number of cars in the U.S. by 2030. Another contributor to the sharp increase in automobile sales is the very low price of gasoline in China. Chinese gasoline prices now rank among the lowest in the world for oil-importing countries, and are a third of retail prices in Europe and Japan, where steep taxes are imposed to discourage gasoline use.

In less-developed parts of the world, some countries actually subsidize pump prices to keep them below what the gasoline actually costs to make. China, which recently raised fuel prices, still keeps them well below international market rates. Chinese drivers — and farmers — still pay the equivalent of less than $2 a gallon.

We don't do that because we have many companies competing and delivering oil. That model would be illegal here.

                        Joe speaks truth once more.

Your money will be all of ours.

In the end Walmart is not good for tehe US economy.

I have to admit that I am out of touch with the effect that walmart has on the economy other than what I have read.

I am fortunate to live in an area where walmart and other big box stores have not completely killed the small businesses. Being that a large part of the population around here works for the federal government we seldom feel the effects of the economy.

I would encourage everyone to write your congressmen (or come to DC and see them in person) and invite them to go home every now and then to see what's really going on. If I barely have a clue I am sure that your senators and reps REALLY have no idea.

Walmart recently built 4 new stores in my area and it seems like it barely affected the small businesses. If anything, they probably helped increase business to the mom & pop operations with the spilllover of dissatisfied customers.

actually, yes, if you know how to pour a jug of oil. once you start it right you just keep going, instead of having to open 5 different containers and then having to drain into those 5 seperate containers (which almost always have those stupid annoying small necks), and then having to move 5 containers to the curb. I'll take the 5 quart jug with a 2" opening and a handle for $12, thanks. ;)
