Don't go too big, it'll scrape too much if you're not on coilovers.

That lip turned out good on your car Brendan. The 3" just let me know, its not a big deal to make, just takes longer...

-Fidhle and I have the same name, I'm not just saying my name a bunch. Figured I'd clarify...

I've been in a situation where I was traveling at low speed, and the lip came out of the clips, but the zipties were still holding the lip up. Had they not been there, I probably would've damaged the lip even more (running over it etc.).

Obviously the stock clips aren't the greatest in the world, or else you wouldn't see tons of lipless e30s out there (even fucking stock height 4x4 e30s have fk'd valances/ missing lips). Anything extra you can do will help.

Or take advice from the "clown" who's been through 6 lips...

Nice. Real subtle. Can you not read that I didn't have any issues with a slammed car and lip with no splitter? As long as your clips are new the lip will be fine, adding zip ties will just add to the danger of your lip being dragged and scraped to shit.

hmm. I've read that some people put zip ties to prevent people from stealing it. I think this was about bimmerfest where some people were robbed. I guess the zip ties gave the robbers a little more work to deal with then just simply pulling it off. Still could be stolen, but you get the point of having it on there. Not a big deal.

Anyways I agree with you on all points solely on your experience alone. What I said before about zip ties was based on what I've read on R3V not from personal experience. I don't really have to worry about these things since I have an airdam which is bolted straight onto my bumper. 8)

Genius, if the kid drives with some sense, factory hardware will be perfectly adequate. This zip-tie bullshit is ridiculous, are the $3 clips enough to break the bank?

Exactly. New clips are very secure and cheap to get and yet everyone seems to have broken clips and then complains when their lip falls off. If your clips are new, your lip WON'T COME OFF at low speeds unless you do something phenomenally stupid.

Yea, I know its stupid :giggle:. I'm just regurgitating something I read on R3V.

Bingo. I ALWAYS have a serrated knife in my pocket. And sometimes a loaded handgun but that's different.

Although, I could use the knife to steal lips and the handgun when people try to steal mine...?

So true. Been 90 and had no issues w/ mine. Don't hit it on the ground and you're fine w/ the stock clips. Pay the money for new clips, and it'll work perfect.

With a 2.5" splitter the stock clips held until 140mph* on mine...

I guess lips are the easiest exterior part to remove off a late model e30.

I love my bolted down airdam. Put that motherfucker on lock down. 8)
