So you installed new headers with old exhaust gaskets??
Ebay M20 Headers

Man your car looks good. I've always seen these headers on ebay and wondered about getting them. Thanks for the test
okay, got everything together, the car sounds amazing (kinds wierd, i'm not used to it yet), pulls amazing, and they look amazing. definitely worth the money. car seems to pull harder sooner than before around 2k rpms. on the burn out-o-meter its about the same, its sounds awesome, kinda like a wrx at low rpms and e46y at high rpms, the pitch is higher than before, on the butt dyno I would say about 10+hp, it honestly feels really good, alot more of a difference than any of the performance chips I've tried have done.

Did you have to remove the engine to do this or did you do the whole thing with a jack and jack stands and tediously unbolting it all?
Also as a rough estimate, how much HP boost did you get from these?
and what are your opinions on the m20 performance headers from Bavauto? I eventually want to get some for my m10 but I want to make sure they deliver.Comment

About 50 hp on the butt dyno. Being cheap ebay headers, and not probably very well designed, I'd be surprised if you gained any actual power from them.
Bavauto headers are a decent choice, I've heard good things about them.Comment

they are usually copies of supersprint headers, not a bad design - just poorly made.Comment

Actually DCcolegrove got a prototype set of these which were lower quality and saw a 17hp gain on a built motor. These are copies of alpina headers and are made of a thinner walled stainless tubing.
check this thread out it these are the headers in question:

Remember though, this was on an m20 with heavily modified and ported head and intake.Actually DCcolegrove got a prototype set of these which were lower quality and saw a 17hp gain on a built motor. These are copies of alpina headers and are made of a thinner walled stainless tubing.

true but you could expect maybe half that from a relatively stock engine no? 8bhp is still a pretty good gain

if it helps at all
I can unbolt all of the stock exhaust manifold bolts with the car on the ground, and remove the entire exhaust with the car just being on jack stands.
still waiting on the sound clip. let us know.Comment

nando's reply was good enough to negate your comment but i wanted to clarify the subject a little more.
I dont know what is meant by "not well designed" but i assume it more than likely relates to equal length primaries? I could go into some detail about the pro and con of them, but its not necessary.
Long story short, if youre making a copy and trying to keep it relatively close, you cant go that wrong. You will have considerable gains and should be somewhat close to that of a header that had lots of tuning about it.
If you are talking about the collectors, yes, they dont look great at all. They wont hurt performance but they deffinetly could be better.
If you suggest that no tuning went into them and they tried somewhat to make them equal length, more than likely, they came out with something that will provide some power gains.
Headers can be done wrong and become a waste but typically will show some form or another of an increase of power.
To say its because the chinese welded them up and that is why they wont show a gain is absurd. (ebay headers = chinese work)Comment
