Your car, do what you want, I only have one slight problem. What you are doing by saving weight will make the car handle like utter shit and will probably twist the whole frame under load. All that metal is there for a reason and that is why the convertible weighs significantly more than the sedan version.

Unless you own an E36 M3, you're not qualified to make this sort of statement.

I own a US spec M3 and it isn't a "fancy 328i" as some jealous non-owners try to assert.

The engine may have hydraulic valve actuation and no ITBs but the difference ends there.

For USA we're minus the more powerful engine and floating rotors, that is all. The suspension setup is identical to the euro M3 (and different from any non-M E36).

I understand that some E30 owners who can't afford even a US spec M3 might try to feel good by cutting down E36 M3 owners like Tom, but that is all you are doing - trying to feel good.

I drove "accident"'s E30 325is, and I can definitely see why some people say E30 cars are more fun to drive. It was awesome. But don't hate on newer/faster M3s by spewing this type of crap.

I was talking engine specifically... don't remember mentioning anything about the chassis/suspension.

And just FYI... not only are there cars on here that sell for well over what an good e36 m3 sells for (~$9000 if mint), but there are much faster cars too.

Hell my turbo 4 pot is faster than a stock e36m3 by a decent amount.

I'm glad you have love for your car, but representing it as a "faster," "more reliable," and better car is a bit off base.

And you assuming people on this board haven't owned e36's is not very mature either. I've owned 2 of them. A 325i and a 328is. It's a decent car, but not as fun to drive, or as well built as the e30.

My perfect BMW would be an E30 sized car with an S50B30 euro engine and the 5-link suspension setup from the E36 M3, as well as the front suspension setup from the E36 M3 (where the sway bar connects directly to the strut). Add in the steering rack from a Z3...mmm

The E30's lack of a true independent rear suspension setup prevents it from out performing E36 cars with similar mods.

I'm not an E36 fan boy, I love all good cars, including E30s, and I'd love to own an E30 M3 someday...but you guys trying to trash someone's faster car paints the (poor) quality of your character immediately.

If that is really your attitude you belong on s14.net where it's basically a big circle jerk of people getting off on the classical value of their stock/original E30 M3s rather than the value of the car as a sports/performance car.

If someone puts an S14 in a normal E30 does it make it an M3?

If someone removed the S14 from an M3 and put in an S50B32 or S50B32 would it not be an M3 anymore?

Your answers to these as well as common sense should tell you that your statement is just trying to make you feel good about not owning one of the cars.

Right now I own both a 328is (in the process of being sold to an E30 owner who wants a faster/more reliable car) and an M3 and I have driven both on their limits and have disassembled the suspension and braking systems on both cars so I think I would know.
