    IM BACK!!!
Heres my update post: Just finished the top removal today. almost done with the interior strip down, waiting for a clean e36 dash to surface the the junkyard so i can retro fit it to my e30. still on the fince over the s-14 plus now a Bowtie Motor has fallen into my hands so thats a tempting change of pace. for now though i'm making do with the 2.5 which now that the car has lost some weight is quite fun.

Pics of the build thus far:

More to come soon, We're drawing out my custom cage so this week so those will most likely be the next images you see.

    Ahahahahaha!

Eight years ago, you could have sourced an S14 with low enough miles that it wouldn't require a rebuild.

Eight years ago was right when people still thought ripping an S14 out of the engine bay and slapping in a 24V was still fairly novel, so they were very affordable.

Eight years ago, S14 rebuild parts weren't stratospherically priced like they are now.

Eight years ago, most people ITT were in 6th grade, some for the second time.
Shit, even then people didn't swap s14's, they swapped in m50's. Project Orca was still the way to go.
And Budwieser didn't do this, Guinness did.

Also, what is all this "real m3" BS? Looks like a pretty legit M3 to me. If any of you douchebags swapped that engine into your E30s, you would go around explaining to people you had an "e36 m3 motor" in your ride. Don't even try to say you wouldn't. The guy has two pretty cool cars by a 20 year old kids standards, the level of hate spouting in this thread is just useless. It has even gotten to the point where some of you are nitpicking about wether or not the OP is still online????? 1999 called, it wants its insults back, along with the "real M3s have 4 cylinders".
OP when I bought my car I too wanted to s-14 it. I quickly found out (8 years ago) that there really isn't a cheap way to do that. Most s-14s need a rebuild, which isn't cheap. I like the M30 idea, look at some of those verts and hardtops, that motor is off the beaten path and can be very fun to play with.
To all the haters..... you guys are trying too hard.

To be honest, this is just another guy stumbling down the path to enlightenment. He'll throw some parts at the vert, realize its WAY WAY more fun to drive than the dolphin car, and begin the healing.

After making a short list of whats needed to START and S14 swap he'll realize its pointless, and go another route. Of course he has no fuckin clue what he's talking about right now, and as long as his panty-unbuncher is working properly he'll fit in just fine, and hopefully start listening to people.

OP, if you are SO worried about weight, get an Al block and build that. It'll STILL cost less than an S14 and FWIR STILL weighs less. As far as "real" M3's go, yours is not. For BMW to sell a "real" e36 M3 stateside they would've had to sell them for like 70k. So they did what most Americans would be happy with, a faster fancy 328is. Either way....I cant afford one.

If he wants to do it to be different then that's fine, but if he wants to have fun at the track in a vert then I personally believe that a 6 cylinder engine would be better for the sake of balance.
I concur, I don't mean to shit on the S14, I love it after all. I feel that it is specifically tailored to the M3 however. There are some engines that are awesome, but you can't just swap them into other cars and expect them function at the same level. The S14 isn't a workhorse like the M50, it is a thoroughbred meant for a role that in this instance, it won't be fufilling. But to the OP do whatever you want, I am sure some people will think its cool and some people won't when its done, but it only matters what you think at the end of the day, just don't expect everyone to agree with you(and I already can tell you don't).

The 2.5 puts out around 92 hp per liter, which is pretty damn good in my book considering it's old school racing technology from the late eighties. In a vert though I believe that a 6 cylinder car would be more desired not just for power, but weight distribution. I am no expert but a light front with a heavy rear I would think throw the weight distribution off causing the car to be less balanced.
