wtf, you want a track car, out of an automatic convertible? whaaaat? If I was you, I'd start bracing that bitch up before you are left with a disfigured cabriolet. I have seen a few track worthy e30 cabbies, but they are done up properly.

If you want a fast car that out handles anything you can get for the money, get a e36 m3. we're not cutting him down just to "feel good either." maybe if he didnt have plans I don't agree with, and actions I don't agree with, then maybe we wouldnt hate. If I had a clue, I would realize that verts have enough chassis flex as is but he can easily firm up the chassis by welding in supports. You probably agree, e30 auto's suck, hard. all of this combined is going to make a car that might not perform as well as the OP thinks.

    get informed or gtfo.
    Fixed for you.

I almost bought an E30 as a project car just for the pure fun factor instead of my M3, they're great cars. You guys trashing on people's newer/faster cars just makes people think you're morons though.

If someone puts an S14 in a normal E30 does it make it an M3?

If someone removed the S14 from an M3 and put in an S50B32 or S50B32 would it not be an M3 anymore?

Your answers to these as well as common sense should tell you that your statement is just trying to make you feel good about not owning one of the cars.

Right now I own both a 328is (in the process of being sold to an E30 owner who wants a faster/more reliable car) and an M3 and I have driven both on their limits and have disassembled the suspension and braking systems on both cars so I think I would know.

Again, still an awesome engine... but a lot of the e30's on this board sell for more than e36 m3's. That should tell you something about how "special" these cars can be.

It isn't though, different suspension, hubs, brakes, etc...

obviously you guys know nothing about the E36 chassis so you'd do well to stop embarrassing yourself by posting about it.

Some E30s on this board sell for more than some E36 M3s that were not well taken care of, not maintained, or need massive work.

An E30 in that state would be worth about $1000 unless it's an M3.

I don't necessarily agree with what Tom is doing with his Vert, but you bashing his E36 M3 just makes you look stupid.

I'm sure he plans on adding suspension braces and firming up the chassis if he is going to use it on the track.

I agree with the person who said S14 isn't the best bang for buck, but it's a cool motor if you can afford it. Obviously no matter what he does to the car it won't be faster than or handle as well as his M3 (since it's an E30) so that should tell you right away he is aiming for a unique/preference based project.

e36 m3's are dime a dozen. if you want a real m3, get an e30 m3, if you want a DD, get a e36 m3. weree not cutting him down just to "feel good either." maybe if he didnt have retarded plans, and retarded actions, then maybe we wouldnt hate. if you didnt know (you dont), verts have enough chassis flex as is. he is making it worse. if you didnt know (you dont), e30 auto's suck, hard. all of this combined is going to make a car that wont perform well.

This car will be utter shit if you cut out the metal bracing between the rear seat and trunk and dont replace it with something. If you leave it open you will have body flex out the wazoo. And Good luck with an automatic s14, never knew they made them:D

Unless you own an E36 M3, you're not qualified to make this sort of statement.

I own a US spec M3 and it isn't a "fancy 328i" as some jealous non-owners try to assert.

The engine may have hydraulic valve actuation and no ITBs but the difference ends there.

For USA we're minus the more powerful engine and floating rotors, that is all. The suspension setup is identical to the euro M3 (and different from any non-M E36).

Not gonna steer worth shit if he cuts out all the sheet metal bracing. It'll just flop around like a fucking rag doll
