So how many times can you do that till there is no frame left?

    Serious question^

The current plan is this weekend to weld some 1/4" plate steel to the bottom of the frame rails and burn through those.

I need to modify the front subframe so that the control arms don't drag either.

I seen this car a couple times in person.

As much as you people grin, I know there is really a smile there.

        Guilty Pleasure.

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

Mike, the old rod and truck guys I used to hang with would weld a 1/4 plate with two nuts welded to the backside (recessed into rails) and use magnesium plate bolted to it to create nice sparkage. Also, it ends up a wear item that is regularly replaceable, opposed to having to reweld frame.

We've talked about a lot of different ways to make stuff "replaceable" but the downside is that I really don't want the car to sit much higher off the ground. Your method certainly sounds like an option though. Another alternative is trailer hitch balls bolted to the rear subframe.

I'm sure I'll come up with something. It's not done yet. :)

Just a word from experience, trailer ball hitches are a terrible idea, I've seen them break before. I knew a few guys who used them and one of them had it come off while dragging. We always welded plates onto the bottom of the frame like you mentioned doing. It'll get ground off, but then you're back at the frame again and can weld on a new one.

Mike, some mini trucking guys I used to work with were planning on using titanium blocks on a build they were working on. They said it was a bit pricey, but completely worth it for the wear characteristics and visuals.
