    Seriously though.

I had been considering building one for B spec racing, but was talked out of it by many, many others currently involved.

If I were looking for something small and economical, I'd go with a Fit, a Fiesta, or even the Kia Rio.

It seems, after reading all these posts, getting a mini will give you that!

          Oh lord no!

I meant the Honda Fit. Those things are surprisingly capable track cars with a couple small upgrades. They aren't the fast thing out there, but they are similar to a Miata in that they are a momentum car that is fairly well balanced (for a FWD.)

^Oh Ok, never heard of that name before. Here in S.Africa it is marketed as Honda Jazz.

My wife drives a 5spd manual second gen (US) Fit and I've always thought it would be a decent amount of fun with something wider than 175s.

it's true though. all these FWD cars are such a tight squeeze.
but then again who am i to complain with my m30 swap since it doesn't lend itself to being easy to work on for anything on the front end of the motor.

And yet people still will buy them used because they are Sooooo Cute.

i'll be honest i've been contemplating leasing a 4 door cooper for my wife but those R56's are truly screwed. my neighbor has a clubman just started getting the deadly "diesel rattle."

One of several reasons I avoid FWD cars is the cramped engine bays, one of the reasons I avoid working on anything relatively new is the cramped engine bays. I wouldn't mind a modded old civic hatch or integra, they're easy enough to work on, but it couldn't be my only car.

It is a cramped bay, which is gonna lead to longer tear down time compared to an e30.
I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow, for the price I think it's worth a try.

My wife had a 2015 Fit sport 5 speed and it was fun to drive the snoot out of it. Seemed to get better mileage around town getting on it, plus it ran on 87 octane a big plus.

It was crappy on the highway as 5th gear was too short, compared to the automatic version on the highway. I am presently looking for an early second gen for my son for college as a CHEAP car.

Eh, for $750 why not. They're shitboxes but I don't mind working on them; they're probably 30% of our business. I've always wanted to pick up a cheap one and move the entire front subframe/powertrain assembly to the rear and put an empty subframe back up front. Make me a pseudo Renault R5. Just do it seat of the pants engineering, not going for style points.

Then when the experiment fails just call a scrapper to come get it, no love lost. That would have been an ideal candidate for me lol.

Lol, you crazy S. Africans, always screwing things up;)

Here in N. America, the Honda Jazz is a scooter.

I recall visiting S. Africa in the 90's and my mom's uncle just bought a new Honda Ballade. I was like WTF is that?!?! then I saw it was just a Civic
