I have access to a welder, and someone who welds very well, but I'm not willing to risk damaging the rest of the car, namely the paint and/or body above where the apron will be mounted. Rivets will work just fine, and if need be, I will seal the seam with something more rigid, like Bondo. But I probably won't need to, rivets should work fine, I've never had problems riveting materials. And if not, we find another way. I'm thinking that we could cover the exposed parts of the car with something, and just a few tack welds ever few inches will be sufficient for decent holding strength, and then riveting it the rest of the way.

It will work. Dammit, I will fucking MAKE IT WORK.

If we have to, we can put a series of bolts along the edge instead of rivets. Then it could be remvable and be super strong. Rivets should be fine though. We'll just have to use stainless steel and LOTS of them with washers on each side.

Sorry I missed you up here the other day Josh.

I still just see the issues with the seems in the wells. But where there is an issue, there is a way to resolve it so it will all be good. You are gonna frickin love it when its done. Besides, Criv is doin the M-Tech1, why duplicate? Its gonna be badass when its all said and done. Just dont go taking on so many projects that it will spend another picnic in Bend! :)

Trust me.. no need to seal the seam.. I need to post picture of my rivetted valance with the bumper on it. Looks factory. Bumper covers up everything.

That guy's looks decent..from those angles - I'd like to see what inside his wheelwell and up/underneath the apron looks like.
Those are shots of my current project.

Up underneath my apron of course look like the back side of the apron overlapping the old one. The wheel well is the only tell tale of the double apron. I plan to fiberglass that in with a backing plate so it will not be noticeable.

If you learn to use figerglass resin it is 10x better than bondo for applications like this.

Josh, im sure stainless steel rivets will do what you want, As you stated.
I use to work at a sign company, Making signs for Mercedes,Audi,Wachovia,GM,etc.
You would be surprised what those rivets are holding together, Plus it keeps from blistering your paint and such.

Yep, like I said, we'll figure it out. Andrew and I live for doing this kind of custom work, so it should be fun.

BTW, the pic in your sig is gorgeous. But it IS too wide, it needs to be cut back to 650.

Early tails and arches are the shit.

Rivets, however... ugh. I've never been to OR so I don't know how bad the winter weather is or if they salt the roads, but that sounds like a great way to get some really kickass hidden rust, IMO.
                              . . .
