Today a correct starter for a M3 came in and we compared it with the M50 starter I pulled from a E34, and you can clearly see the differences. unfortunately lens on my point and shoot is dying a slow death, and wouldn't become erect so i could take a comparo shot. The M3 starter wheel sits further back than the M50 wheel, and when the solenoid engages, it doesn't shoot forward as far.
Here is some pictures of the damaged the wrong starter caused on my pretty flywheel :(
And here are some other pictures I took today. We only had a solid 3 hours to work on the car, but in that time we re-installed the transmission, starter, driveshaft, and bled the brakes. We started on the clutch but ran out of time. Sure all this crap fits, but damn it sucks for space if you try to do anything!
Up next is finish bleeding the clutch, attend to that beehive of wires under the dash:( add a switch for the electric fan, and for the main relay. Find out why the starter relay doesn't work and then get it registered!
