    more autox pics

    a couple taken from yesterday:

and some more from last month:

finally getting my tire pressure balance dialed in.. I stuck with 45.5 front and 36.5 rear yesterday and it was working very well. no push at all (unless I went off line into the pebbles) and a good bit of rear rotation. this allowed me to power out of the corners a bit easier. I also got launching my car down, it seems to like 4k clutch drops best - no bogging, no harsh crashing, just slight wheelspin and it takes off. :D

yeah it's a pretty nice lot - small, but the surface is smooth and it's not completely flat which makes for some interesting corners. there was a really sharp right hander on yesterday's course that happened to have a lot of camber, so you could go quite a bit faster than it looked. the hill between the upper and lower sections is fun too.

No pics of you going over the hump? I guess Justin got a tire or two in the air when he went over it. What did you get your final times down to?

Nice man. I love to see an iX tearing it up. I miss your Rieger lip though. How is the 5 speed treating you?

the results haven't been posted yet, but I was 7th overall and 2nd in my group (there was only 3 cars in my group though). I'll add a link here when they are posted. none of the cars that were faster than me were really street cars though; the top 6 spots were pretty much taken by stripped out track cars. I don't feel too bad for driving a crappy ix with a full interior and working A/C. ;)

craig, my final time was a 44.8, justin was down to I think a 42.9.. but derek still beat him! :( and bob beat justin in his own car :D

don't think I caught any air over that hill, although it did get kinda rough a couple times! I was pegged at the rev limiter before I even got to the mt baker box though. my poor M20!

it depends on the driver and which WRX it is. I don't tend to worry too much about the 2.5rs or a regular WRX. but STI's with a good driver are pretty scary!

the AWD makes it different, but it's not really an advantage or a disadvantage. it just means I have to drive my car differently than the other E30s, setup my suspension differently, use different tire pressures.. it's a lot of trial and error, and I'm always trying to chase down a very well setup 325i (2500lbs, coilovers, good driver, etc). my car feels like a boat in comparison, but it's still pretty much stock. I wish I could strip out my car, but that would pretty much suck to drive on the street.

                            Were you running 225/50/15s?

I'd like to try my hand at some auto-x next summer when the 335i is all put together, but I'm not sure if I should go for 15 or 16" wheels!

not quite, 225/50-14 hoosier AS304s. they're massive and light.

if you are just starting, don't even worry about it. just add some pressure to whatever tires you have and start learning.. because doing stuff to your car isn't going to make any difference.
